I've tried to do this for Graces f, I'm pretty sure I'm just before the future arc, but oh my god the games theme is just really meh for me... I really love the combat but the whole friendship thing is really... meh. Again it's not bad at all, just not for me!
I agree, there was no real need to make a sequel to ToS. DoTNW just felt tacked on, with a heavy focus on Poke... uh, monster collecting. None of the old party members felt like they did in ToS and they couldn't even level up during the final chapter, making them incredibly weak.
The endgame sucked in particular. I remember fighting the final boss and he just wrecks me with Mystic Artes (always leaving me with 1 HP) and after managing to heal from it he would hit with another.
None of the final bosses frustrated me more.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the battle system is good though not my favorite.
I get ya on Luke and Anise, but I really liked Jade. His subtle humor in some cases was brilliant.
ToE was an ok game, but compared to the other Tales games I played so far (Phantasia, Destiny, Eternia, Symphonia[+DotNW], Abyss and Graces) it was the one that I disliked the most... probably very much because of my high expectations...
BTW: I actually enjoyed playing DotNW... but I'm pretty sure I'm a minority on that one... seriously though, I don't get the hate... The story was very well done (even for a love story) and the fusion of Symphonia's worlds was pretty good as well and I actually liked the fact that you didn't have to go around on a freakin' huge world map just to get anywhere. I do understand some of the criticism it got, such as that it feels somewhat rushed and incomplete and that some characters are too over-the-top (which is a point that could be made with almost any JRPG), but I still think it was pretty fun to play, although the repetitive mini-sidequests (the ones you get from Katz) and Gladsheim really drive me nuts whenever I play the game...
Dawn of the New World was a poor excuse for a sequel to what I think is the best game in the series. Emil was an annoying character. Even if his split personality was a lot cooler. The monster collecting system was not at all necessary. The previous Symphonia cast just felt like a tossed-in idea to please old fans. Not to mention, the new voice actors did a horrible job at dubbing their voices. I felt like they could have made the game, separate from Symphonia and it could have equally been up there with Legendia as one of the more abstract titles. If they did decide to make this game for the PC, it may be the one Tales title that I wouldn't purchase on Steam.
Now, Vesperia was a game that I enjoyed whilst playing it, but definitely judged harshly in hindsight. I liked Yuri's character for being the anti-hero and for contrasting that of Flynn (which would have been the typical run-of-the-mill Tales hero). I however, could not get passed how bored I was with the story. I also didn't find many of the characters to be as memorable as characters from the other entries. I mean, one of the characters was a dog, and in the 360 version two characters (one of which was important to the story) were missing. Karol and Rita were annoying to me, and one of the characters was a traitor.
The battle system also was very bland. I liked that it was able to go back to its roots, but there was no nuance. It was basically a button masher. Also, the ending was random. I actually could not explain to myself why it took a turn for the weird. I felt like there was little resolve. When I beat Symphonia, the ending was a fitting end to a great and epic story. I could not say the same for Vesperia. It was very meh. I also couldn't see myself playing this again, but if they released all the PS3 content, I may consider it. I would prefer other titles though.
But in second half all characters blame luckk FOR THEIR MISTAKES. it THEM who killed all those people not Luke who just trusted a man who was more father and friend for him than any other person. And what writers do to Luke? They recast him and turn him in generic tard protagonsit who loves all people and want to save them while feeling guilty for sins he did not commited. WTF is that?
Symhonia had far more predictable story. Its Basicly Eternia 2,0 with its own twist. Nothing special. Forse battle system and forgetable characters. Kind blonde love interesr? Check Ninja? Check, 1-2 adult characters with dark past? Check And i dont even remember the rest despite playing it 4-5 monts ago unlike almost any other game.
Dawn of new world not even a tales game. Its just a spinnof that uses same assets. Game about pokemons.
Also Xiliia 2 is boring to death. Boring story, wore battle and lvl up system. same lazy levels, And they turned game into guild rpg. You know those, right? Its that type of game where you get contracts and fulfill them while real story happens only from time to time. Atelier games on ps3 and one on ps2 good example.
3ds players are suffer even more.
About Legendia. I was annoyed bu damsel in distress plot. Whole game you just save and lose you not blood related sister like in some low qulity hentai.
