Dragon Newt Boss
Been fighting him for 15+ minutes and nothing. Whats supposed to happen? I'm doing no damage and dying results in me having to retry.

My basic attacks dont interrupt his casting artes either.

Not to mention for some reason every time I try to do a basic attack I wind up using an arte instead...? I don't know when that started happening but its very annoying.

Maybe check your controls for the Artes problem.
As for the boss himself Dezel and rose join the fight (hes weak against wind iirc). I don't know if its time or health based for when they join but it took me like 2 attempts before they joined the fight.

That's for the Fire Trail. I think he is talking about the Dragon Newt before Rose and Dezel joins the team. You would need to keep it's health down a bit before they join in the fight.

I think you have to bash him down to 14k if I remember correct. it's a annoying fight if you play on hard, especially since that thing is around lvl 32 and if you didn't grind some levels your party should be still under lvl 20, but you can do it.

Of course you can't interrupt his artes since you use the wrong counterpart. It's probably even worse, you speed him up in casting.

Enemy casting arte speeds up with hidden arte, but can be canceled with martial arte.

Sephiric Arte < Martial Arte < Hidden Arte < Sepheric Arte

I think I was under leveled when I fought it so it took me a while too to beat it. (In Hard Mode)

Mikleo: SOREY! Don't go running in like that!
Sorey: I KNOW! I just have to buy them some time!

Hint being, stay in Luzrov Rulay form and dodge be that in free run mode or side stepping.

It's definitely a damage trigger, the fight was around 20 minutes for me and it wasn't until I did a chunk of damage to it that the next mid-fight cutscene played.

sidestep his helm breaker (jumping overhead swing) and use your martial artes to interrupt his spellcasting. use your wind arte if you have it, the spinning electric slash, to make him vulnerable. Combo him with forward strikes as that chain will do a good chunk of damage AND has the most hits. Just keep sidestepping his overhead and in time it will progress.

It helps to manually make Mikleo use his heal on you from time to time, he tends to forget.

well I personally have the problem the enemies always attack my comrades instead of me and thats a little annoying in fights like this. Even when you say "get away from fighting and prioritize health and defense" they die one after another.
