Solutions - controller problems
[ MORE SOLUTIONS FOR DIFFERENT PROBLEMS RELATED TO CONTROLLERS IN THE COMMENTS ]

I don't have the game yet, because money, but I helped my friend with his Dualshock 1. Yes, 1. And yes, it does work perfectly now. It may help at least some of you.

First, try different input settings in-game, like this: http://i.imgur.com/pmD2vCg.jpg

If that doesn't work, here's a more complicated solution:

1. Get x360ce 32-bit here: http://www.x360ce.com
2. Put x360ce.exe into the game folder where "Tales of Zestiria.exe" is.
3. Run it. You'll see a warning, so click "Create". Then click "Next" and "Finish".
4. Try your controller to see if the program displays everything correctly. If not, you can change buttons by clicking them. If everything seems right, close the program.
5. Run the game.
6. As previously mentioned, try different input settings: http://i.imgur.com/pmD2vCg.jpg

Doesn't work for me. I'm using Generic USB joystick

doesn't work, using a direct input controller "hama double action air grip"

How do you get the game to stop registering a standard USB contoller twice? It thinks I have both an Xbox 360 controller and the standard gamepad plugged in at once. It wouldn't be such a problem if the ingame bindings would actually work.

My friend had only one controller, Dualshock 1, as I said. In the game's settings - after using x360ce - there were two gamepads: "Twin USB Joystick" (which is the name his controller is know as in Windows) and "Xbox 360 Controller". When I set the former one in-game, it didn't work . But when I changed it to "Xbox 360 Controller", it started working just fine.

That's all I did.

The issue is for me that the game detects both controllers which have widely different configurations that the game won't remap for ingame menus for whatever reason. Since it enables multiplayer depeding upon how many devices are connected, it detects player 1 as using the Xbox CE controller correctly and player 2 using the USB Gamepad, but it's really only one controller.

Do you know how to have the Xbox CE be the only one detected by ToZ and ignore the default USB Gamepad? I've been trying to use HookMask commands, but nothing seems to be working.

Sorry, no idea. I'm guessing changing input for player 2 to keyboard doesn't work?

Actually, if you could somehow create a phantom controller (with an emulator or something) that's displayed in game but doesn't physically exist, you could then change the input for players 2 and 3 to that.
Yuuki Oct 22, 2015 @ 12:45pm
why not just use input mapper?
Lord Regulus Oct 22, 2015 @ 12:48pm
Nah, the game currently registers 3 different inputs that it can use so it defaults to 3 players. One is always using the xbox CE, one is using the keyboard and mouse, and one is always using the USB gamepad. Unbinding the controls for each player on the USB gamepad doesnt work either as changes to bindings doesn't affect menus. It wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't detect my USB controller incorrectly. It doesn't register the right shoulder button as existing for some reason. I hope they patch this soon. Workarounds are crazy-hard to get to work.

@Yuuki
Gonna try that now.

can you share your settings for this game in x360ce? mine doesnt even start with this
Lord Regulus Oct 22, 2015 @ 6:14pm
@Demil
Did you want the Ini file copied and pasted here or what?
ttvDermil Oct 22, 2015 @ 6:54pm
if you could go into the 360ce and go into the game settings tab and take a screenshot of what settings are chosen for tales of zest for me it'd be swell
Lord Regulus Oct 22, 2015 @ 10:42pm
Here you go. You have to rename the DLL to 9_1_0 version for the game to register it, but it still has the ghosting issue. If you can figure out how to make it work, lemme know,

Game doesn't seem to recognize xinput 1_3 for me, I had to use the 1_4 version instead. Try it.
Renaming might work too but I'm not sure.

Haven't found a way and that made my game unplayable as well (as in, every time I tried to transform the other controller would think I was pressing start and pause the game) But there is a way to glitch both P2 and P3 into Keyboard so they won't be messing with your controller input:

I made the x360ce work yesterday by renaming xinput1_3.dll to xinput1_4.dll

But today, something weird happen. The game started to recognizing my gamepad and x360ce emulator as 2 different gamepads which makes no sense. So now when I got controller settings, it says I have 3 controllers. My keyboard, the joystick and x360ce emulator.

any ideas what's happening?
