What does local coop exactly mean in this game?
I have rarely seen a jRPG with local coop, so I'm not sure what to expect... Does it mean multiple players control different characters at the same time or something else? Also, is it couch-coop (i.e. we share the same screen) or does it need LAN and two screens? I understand that for a console game this latter option is silly, but I have been burned before by the "local coop" label so I have to ask.

Every player (max 4) plays on the same screen in real time

but i think local co op means that u must have second player by your side on the couch, not by lan, if it would be through lan they would write just co-op or multiplayer

For tales of games, local co-op means that you and up to 3 other people can play together during the battle sequences of the game.

Everything else is controlled by the first player from field movement to menu navigation.

Yeah only battles are co-op.

Ok, cool. I now get it. Thanks for the replies.

@GravityLoL
Some games actually lie and call LAN "Local Co-Op" because "hey, L in LAN stands for Local". E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy being one such example.

No. 1 screen 4 people. Camera is spread amongst all 4 players if it's a player. If it's a CPU ally then the camera ignores it unless they perform a flashy skill.

ah, ok thanks, was going to get another copy for my sister so that we could coop. But look like it is not necessary
Ask yourself:
Do you like playing games where you can only fight as a sidekick and have no real options beside fighting? (because thats what your buddies will experience if you buy it for coop purpose.)

And i swear this is the most boring thing i have ever seen as rpg coop, unless you both hype that manga style stuff and the genre (i belive its fantasy but its probably some sort of japanese vision of another (non-hard) fantasy) or if you both are fascinated by the story (which will probably be a romace at the end, maybe even between you and your buddy).

so i'd say have fun with the game on singleplayer and don't expect your friend to play along unless they are your slaves. in that case make them suffer!

Tales of Zestiria, like Tales of Xillia, is best limited to 2 player co-op. The 4 seraphim characters are linked to the 2 human characters, and the player as the human character basically controls the seraphim at will as well, being able to fuse with them. This fusion takes control of the character away from the person controlling the seraphim. Just as in Tales of Xillia, a player can link with another character, and it takes all control of that character away from anyone playing them at the time.

According to newest generation of gamers "multiplayer" mean "multiplayer over internet" only.

So, does anyone know how to turn OFF coop? because "Player 2" just sits there and does nothing and I don't know that I can make that character do anything without Armatizing.

It's a feature that allow you to hate your brothers even more.

put all AI characters on Auto mode, putting it on semi-auto manual means you want that character to be controlled by another player
