ARK: Survival Evolved
Taming
Just a quick question my fellow tribesmen. Just started playing again after a fair few years off so I'm playing with my little boy and he has asked me can we both use the aregy to tame a dino meaning if he picked me up with it could I use the gun with the tranq dart if I'm been carried ?

Thanks!

Not easy to aim but the answer is, yes. You can also use the grappling hook to hang below the Argy and shoot from there too.

Sorry not steam iv had to get xbox live on my pc
As a father I can't imagine the game being any more enjoyable than to be playing with my child.
Ah! I've only played through Steam but I would assume that this would still work.
There are servers that will still let you play with your son and you use Steam and he the XBox.
Playing a dino game with your son. This game couldn't be any more enjoyable than that.

Honestly it's the best thing mate he is having so much fun playing with his dad
Just a word of caution - sometimes when carried in the talons, clipping can occur and darts/arrows fired by the person carried can hit the argent rather than the creature you're trying to tame. If you wanna tame something via the carry method, being carried in the argent's beak might be more successful, or using the grappling hook method to hang a little way below it. But yes, talons can work too if you get the right angle.

Ok man thanks for the info I'll be trying this tonight with the boy when I finish work
Another way to make it easier it to go tame a tapejara, the giant king sized pterodactyls.

They have a 2 seat saddle. And if I remember right, the rear seat faces backward. Literally meant to be a gunner's seat. Eazy peazy taming of anything airborne after that.

Three actually, they have a separate front seat too which could be used for a taming shooter. And they can cling to walls and cliffs, so you can just hang and shoot without losing stamina.
All the better.

The real upgrade past that point is a sinomacrops, which requires going to a specific map to tame.

The sinomacrops is a "shoulder" pet that clamps onto a players back and gives them powered flight by flapping it's wings, gliding, and a parachute mode. I got so used to wearing one that I pretty much have to wear it all the time... I will run off the top of 5 story buildings thinking I can fly or glide down, and realize I don't have it on. Plop. Thud. Now I just wear it all the time on most maps.

It revolutionizes aerial taming. I will fly up on something else like an argy, and then just jump off and flap with the sinomacrops. I set the flyer to follow me. It makes taming things like the quetzl a snap.

Sinoma also acts as a scarecrow, and it screams at all the pest/theif dinos: The ichtyornis (seagull), the pegomastix, and various insects. The scream frightens them away, and damages insects like crazy. It can outright kill things like the giant ants.

And they're kind of a glitchy nightmare to tame. Super buggy, and prone to reaching a point where it's a lost cause taming attempt. Their taming effectiveness drops constantly and they starve to death.
The argy is also very good at carrying wild dinos, which allows you to drop them into a taming pen: https://www.dododex.com/capabilities/carry
