I was farming for black pearls with my 2 basilos and the one i wasn't riding wouldn't attack anything and wouldn't respond to my whistles to attack anything

Basilosaurs have always been like that. I don't know if it's a bug (which given the devs are now moving on from Ark Evolved to Ark Ascended will never be fixed) or intended behaviour. But unridden basilos will not attack anything when deep down in the ocean, only up near the surface.

It could be a couple of things.
1. Did you turn on ignore whistles in behavior, and forget you had it turned on.
2. Do you have a tame group assigned, and forgot to turn it off.
If it's not those, I have no other ideas :)

that is not a bug. below a certain depth basilos are starting to "suffocate" and they will not listen to whistles because they are occupied with the process of dying :D
when you keep hearing those hurt sounds periodically, they will be like this.
it is a game mechanic.

Wow, thanks for explication !! Always something new to learn about ARK. I knew about the suffocation, but did not put it together with the whistles. Makes total sense!!!
