Admin commands

am 76 y old and can't find a way to get admin command in my public single player server on pc. Plz give me a step by step way to get them! Thxs in advance. (am a newbie ofc)

well it would take a bit to go into detail. but my first recommendation is downloading "Ark IDs" for your smart phone, its a handy list of the commands and the first one is the instructions your looking for.
the first one being "EnableCheats" the password should be serveradminpassword.

^ Quick note on that - the 'enablecheats' admin password command is not required for single player or non-dedicated sessions, only dedicated servers.

Using admin commands is very simple. When in game, simply press TAB. That will bring up a text box at the bottom of the screen, which you can type into. Type the command you wish to use, then press enter, and the command will activate.

On a dedicated server you have to prefix the command with 'admincheat', for example:

admincheat destroywilddinos
admincheat god
admincheat getallstate ankylo_character_BP_C 1
etc.

But on single player the prefix is not required, just enter the command without it and it should work:

destroywilddinos
god
getallstate ankylo_character_BP_C 1
etc.

Usually the admin window key is the tilde. That's the key in the upper left of most keyboards, above the tab, to the left of 1.

If you hit it once, you will get a tiny black bar at the bottom of the screen. If you have trouble seeing that, hit tilde again and it will know fill a much larger proportion of the screen. It will also show a history of previous commands you've entered too.

There's a history of commands kept in record, and if you press up arrow, it auto-enters the last command used. Pressed up arrow again repeatedly cycles through previous commands, erasing whatever is at the prompt and auto-entering previous commands one after the other.

Saves a lot of time typing.

Oh right, you're correct @William it is tilde, my bad. What game have I been playing recently which uses TAB for that option then? For some reason I had that stuck in my head from a recent title...

actually, I just checked it. You were right, and I was wrong. it's tab in ark. Not tilde.

Yup, default is tab but many of us change it to tilde because I like my inventory under tab.

After you said that I hopped to the wiki to double check default controls, could have sworn I saw that say tilde. Then again I'm currently running on around two hours sleep over the last two days or more, so my judgement may not be the most stellar right now...

I may have remapped mine to tab at some point.

It has been... sigh... a long week.
