About Breeding...
Is breeding really supposed to take this long? I started playing on an unofficial server back in November, I decided to tame Rexes and Therizinosaurs for boss battles. It didn't take too long to find good breeding pair for both types.

But now it's May 6th, and I'm only 5/20 on Rexes and 4/20 on Therizinosaurs. I'm starting to lose interest because the process feels too long. I have around thirty base females just to get one mutation per day, but I often have to wait up to twenty hours for the breeding cool-down, which means I can only breed once a day. And when I do get a mutation, it's usually in either the oxygen or food stat.

For example when I and my friends ran a server, we reduced the cooldown so females could mate again instantly, and reduced the mating/egg hatching/maturation times to similar values as Mathius mentions above.

Vanilla rates were set for official servers, where the player is expected to be working with a large tribe, and everybody can chip in to breed and raise the dinos. When playing in a smaller tribe or without tribemates altogether, those long timers can be a real grind.

You could ask the server owner if they would be willing to adjust the rates and make it a bit easier. Or alternatively you could switch to another server with adjusted rates, or play solo and set the rates yourself instead.

Is it your server or someone else's server?...

First off, you're not really talking about breeding, you're talking about mutations.

A lot IS going to depend on your breeding rates, how many females you have, and how many eggs you're getting. It's just a numbers game. The chance of mutations is low. If you're doing it right, you can keep breeding mutations forever, but the chance is going to get cut in half when you reach 20/20 on your male.

If you have the mutator on your server, you can use that, but it costs I want to say 10 shards per mutation pulse in SS, and you have to be tek tier to use it.

I have about thirty females for each type with one mutated male for mating. I do not have all the tek engrams at this point just gamma for this server. Plus, this is the first time I have ever gotten serious about mutating for good stats. I know I'm doing it right just that all the waiting it is taking the fun out of the game... now I know why people are so protective of their line.

I mean by comparison, my server has the settings at 48x Egg Hatch Speed and 45x Baby Maturation.

I set all this stuff up based on Otters and Gigas because back in 2021 when I originally set up the servers, the Giga took the longest to raise and the Otter was one of the shortest.

So it takes about 9 minutes for an Otter to pop out a baby, and about 30 minutes to raise it. A giga egg takes.... an hour to hatch I think? It takes about 4 hrs to raise a Giga.

On this server it takes all day for one of my Blood Wyvern's to mature to the adult stage. A Dire wolf takes about half that I would say 7-10 hrs this is without imprinting. If I want to imprint its takes 3 times at 60 minutes each. I was going to leave the server that I'm on but one of the Admins is so cool I stayed...

Hey Hermit, Yea I asked the admins/owner to change their rates so its more fun, but they said it wasn't possible... not sure what the reason is something about the cool down time being different (shrug). I am playing solo no tribe mates... I prefer it that way, no drama. lol

Heya :PhogsHappy:

The cooldown timer shouldn't really be a problem as far as I'm aware. Any female which was on a cooldown before the config change was implemented would still be unable to mate and have to wait out the full timer before they could go again. But once that timer ran down, on their next mating the new configs would take effect and their next cooldown would be much shorter. And any females which were not on cooldown would have the new config come into play right away.

These are the exact settings I use and the exact .ini strings:

BabyCuddleGracePeriodMultiplier=3.000000
BabyCuddleIntervalMultiplier=0.050000
BabyCuddleLoseImprintQualitySpeedMultiplier=0.500000
BabyFoodConsumptionSpeedMultiplier=0.400000
BabyImprintAmountMultiplier=3.000000
BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=45.000000
LayEggIntervalMultiplier=0.800000
MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.003000
MatingSpeedMultiplier=2.000000
EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=48.000000

They could add that to the Game.ini and if the rates are too high he could change them. Keeping in mind that many of them are related.

For example, if you change the maturation speed, you might have to change the cuddleinterval.

Description of all of those should be on the wiki.

It's possible he's editing the default game.ini and not the one in the "saved" directory and that's why he thinks it won't work.
