WAY more to do on that map. It's a pretty cool one. There are lots of cool viking themed ruins to explore. Whole destroyed villages, temples, etc.
Much expanded boss battles. They added mini-bosses below the main bosses. A giant bee. An ice bear, and a pair of wolves. They're not quite as tough as the ape, broodmother, etc. But they're unique and cool. They're summoned by using a special currency only dropped by killing alpha dinos. And alphas are WAY more common on Fjordur. They're like everywhere.
Once you kill the mini-bosses, you can move onto the traditional bosses (ape, broodmother, etc). Then at the top is a main boss battle against a creature unique to Fjordur, a giant ice wolf. Your reward for beating that boss is a cryopodded tamed version of that boss. Only way to get it.
Plus the map has 3 sub realms: an ice realm, plains, and a jungle/swamp. They're technically "caves" but when you go there they have normal skyboxes, ie blue skys with clouds. Because they are "caves" you can't normally mount any flying creatures in them.
You can override that with special server settings. The ice realm is possibly the coldest place in ark. Even ascendant fur armor might not protect you. I had to breed super high level otters to stop the constant freezing.
Fjordur has some unique creatures.
Top of the list is the desmodus, a giant flying bat. It's big enough to be mounted and ridden. It's a S-tier tame. It flies like a tapejara. Up, down, left, right, forward, back. And it can hover in place. It can also land and latch to walls.
Has a crazy list of abilities. Night vision, a mode for adding debuffs to enemies which allows the desmodus to do more damage to them, and turn invisible at night. It also drains health from enemies and generates blood packs in it's inventory. Hundreds of blood packs.
Crossbred and leveled up, they can kill alphas. Easily. On a 150 max level server, my crossbred desmodus are in the 280 range. With exp level pushing up to about level 350, I can do 600+ hp per attack. They attack insanely fast.
The desmodus also makes a special elixir in it's inventory from blood packs. This elixir can be used during taming to add 30% to the taming progress of a creature. Just once per tame though. But adding 30% is a godsend on some of those finicky broken taming methods that some ark creatures have.
Number one skill: they can be flown into caves. Normally. without any special settings. They were even allowed in caves on official servers.
I'd have preferred them to focus on just one or two special, unique qualities, and do them really well. I wouldn't care if I couldn't get wyvern eggs on that map - I can transfer my character to Scorched to get those. I wouldn't mind if I wasn't able to fight the titans, I can go to Extinction if I want. Give us something different, or if it does borrow from other maps take it in new imaginative ways which haven't been seen before to make it more special.
For those reasons I'd recommend one of the official story maps (if you haven't already played them to death) or one of the early mod maps like The Center or Ragnarok. They have much more character and uniqueness to them. That's just my take on it though, and I realise it's not really a popular one, so each to their own.
Simply because of the Sinomacrops.
They are worth it 100% just to install that 60 gb map.
