- The Right Hand.
No risk, no reward.
And as TheRightHand just commented there are both fire and different types of torches. So I really hope the night will continue to be as dark as it is now. :)
went out the other night, pitch black, raining and fog, and in the moonlight i see a huge t-rex shadow in front of me smashing stuff, i pooped i few times in that moment.
I don't mind it as this isn't trying to be a totally fake world like , just for one example, World
of Warcraft with its 'night'.
Night is scary, because.
Dark.
I tend to stick to more open areas so the full moon nights are quite bright.
I even have to deal with IPS panel 'glow' and manage to see okay on those nights.
That said, I do tend to at times take advanage of the situation to take a game break,
and will either walk off to tend to something in the house, or tab out and
browse the internets while dark thirty passes by.
I don't have to I choose to, as I said above, I can cope with the dark.
That said, Im not a night crawler. I don't crawl around the hood at night in real life, and
in this game I tend to hang out at camp or very near it during the night.
As another suggested, taking a dino or three along at night set to 'neutral aggro'
boosts self confidence.
If something bites you they are there in a flash.
Fair enough, but what can you actually actively do, when using Torches/Hugging a campfire?
My IPS monitor really doesn't help either.
Sure, we can pick berries, but Raptor aggro range cannot compare to how far a torch can light things up.
Other dinos are fine, but it's really hard to protect yourself from something you cannot see, which teleport/lags anywhere in a flash.

Game has light sources, use em.
I was in my blacksmith section of the building when i heard a raptor running around outside. I managed to close my door before it could get in then spent the entire night looking for a movement past the window and it was glorious.
Don't be scum, use the in-game light sources like a normal human being.
The game should never have to compromise, simply because some people can't see well during the night.
Want to venture out during the night, then it's a risk to take.
And if you know an area has Raptors around, don't go there during the night.
