Are Carbos Worth it?
I mean they are said to have great movement speed in water, very little natural predators and high hp,and a decent base carry weight, are they any good at diving and stuff for the end game underwater resources?

Not really. An Ank doesn't turn as fast but you'll harvest FAR more oil with one than a Carbo. IMO Carbo is only good for making kibble for the Bronto.

just NO

They are very nice and oftenly underrated.
They're one of the best tank in game but they are slow... Well it's a turtle...

Very little natural predators only counts in the wild, not with you on the back :)

They are oftenly underrated because they are oftenly useless.

Not in the long run. They were/are easy tame entrance level water dinos before the Itchy came along. Now they are really just good "tank" guards that I pair up with other Dinos in my Water pens and outer fence perimeters so that wild dinos engage them first so my damage dinos don't have to tank.

How is it useless to have a free tank for taming or even killing an alpha rex ?

fair enough, but i just levelled him twice and got to 3k hp, which is quite nice, and he started off with 170% ms

It's a pretty poor tame, imo, and I really wanted to like it. It's not "fast" in water, it's just faster than its crazy slow walking speed. In the water it can move about as fast as a player's normal walking speed. The only good points are unlimited oxygen, regen stam + hp in water, amphibious, and really good HP.

I've seen a lot of people say they are fast in water or are good for carrying cargo in the water - they're not. If you have enough O2 to get to the ocean bottom on a turtle you'd probably get there faster by swimming there yourself. Their carry weight is best described as "average" I think. The ichthy is about the same and can move at blinding speed.

The turtle can tank a lot of damage, especially with a saddle, so that's great. Unfortunately its damage is not very good so it's going to need some backup as well. It turns muuuch faster in water than a sarco so that's nice, but it's still not good enough to be safe from being shredded by piranhas (which ignore ichthys, megas, and plesios fyi).

Turtles aren't totally useless, but there's pretty much always a better dino for the job. I really hope they get a buff, that would be great. Doubling the water speed would be a good start, imo.

Personally, I find the Carbonemys very useful early game with some applications late game.

Early game you are faced with problems like carry weight. Having a couple turtles around helps alleviate that to some extent. It was the first animal I tamed and I found them very helpful when out collecting. Its not a Bronto, but it serves its purpose.

Late game...HP levels up quickly on these guys, especially if you have a high level at the start. I played on a server not long ago where a guy used them to tank a Rex while he was taming it. I can't speak to how successful that was, but its an idea. Mostly they are useful for their eggs. Bronto's eat Turtle Egg Kibble...and alot of it. I'm currently working out some efficient designs for egg collection...without much luck...even mate boosted egg drops are pretty rare.

As far as a mount...by the time you can make the Carbonemys saddle...you have better options. They need to make that saddle available much earlier in the progression IMO. It would make crossing rivers alot less dangerous and encourage people to go out and get face wrecked by a t-rex. Face t-rexed...there's a play on words somewhere there...i'm sure one of you geniuses has the answer.

They're not actually fast in water, it's just capable of moving faster than most land animals can in water, while also being able to walk on land.

They're not really useful outside of being a Tank though. They can make decent pack animals but there's better options. Their damage output is attrocious, making them absolutely terrible for resource collecting (if they can even collect any resources).

They're best used as tanks and distractions, even as bait, for larger dinosaurs. Can also be helpful to use a Carbonyms to help you tame more dangerous dinosaurs.

They're also probably one of the easiest dinosaurs to tame once you have a slingshot and can make good early game dinosaurs. Late game however, their HP is the only noticeable stat. (And there's still better options.)

You really like to gimp yourself don't you?
How can you tank an AOE dmg dino?
Ultimate Fury Aug 11, 2015 @ 8:10am
The best thing I can see for them is to level them to be a tank, dumping almost all of their levels into health. Even my buddy's max level trex has to bite a turtle several times to kill it sometimes. They would make a great frontline tank to absorb damage from an attacking dino while your damage dealers take it out from the sides

They can tank stuff. That's... about it unfortunately. If you want to haul crap in the ocean, better off using a Plesio (HIGH carry weight) or Sarcos (easier to tame, can just get off onto the land at destination). Ichthys are so much faster/easier to tame that they really put the Carbo out of a job. I only use them because I got a BP for a Journeyman Saddle, so my high level ones are virtually invincible.

The only legit use for Carbos I have seen was "shark bait". You use a carbo to safely lure a megalodon near the shore in order to tranq/tame it. I have actually seen a carbo named "Shark bait". With the introduction of crossbow though, even this use for carbos is now kinda obsolete.

Regarding tanking a Rex with a carbo in order to tranq it, it is much easier to use a fast(Raptor/Saber) or flying mount and just lure the Rex near other targets to attack/eat and tranq it while doing so. I mean, sure, carbos can tank, but it will take ages to travel up to a Rex with it.
