Leeches
Hi All

OK so I been trying to get some chitin and glue and such and was checking some videos and some were suggesting leeches were good sources for both.

But where are they? I spent quite a bit of time around the swamp tonight on my frog and not one leech. On the other hand I found these snail like creatures and they gave me some stuff and the flies those seemed to be best for both but where can I find leeches? The swamp seemed void of them despite guides and videos suggesting the swamp which would make sense for a leech!

They do spawn in the swamp, yes, but in groups. So you may get some patches with none, and then a little way down the river you find a large horde of them. Plus they're hard to see because they're below the water in all the foliage and algae.

If you want to find them more consistently you could try the swamp cave (which ironically is located not in the swamp but in the redwoods), however the air in there is poisonous and the heat intense so you need some special equipment to survive. Might not be cost-effective for you as yet.

I would say just try to move around the swamp a lot. Go from one end to the other and back again, and keep attacking every so often as you move to see if you hit one under the water.

Side note: I'm not sure that leeches are really the best for chitin and cementing paste, as I recall they don't drop that much of either. Attacking bugs with your frog as you have been doing is a good way to get some, and beaver dams work too, as do the bugs in caves. But if you have access to the ocean, killing dunkleosteous will net you a pretty nice chitin haul.

Swamp cave is so many leeches you can walk in and walk out with hundreds of leechblood.

If you want cement paste I'd suggest robbing beaver dams, or alternatively taming a few Achatina. With 4 Achatina at my base I often come home to 400 paste.

Theres killing bugs with Beelzebufo, but I don't have much experience with that.

yeah I noticed when I was killing bugs while searching for the leeches I found I would come out pretty good like 40-50 a pop. Got enough kills that I got all the paste I needed for my industrial cooker and can bank the other stuff I was going to use to make it. Was just weird I couldn't find anything but fish fish and more dang fish HA HA

Not even seen a beaver dam yet or a beaver for that matter but then my base is right at the border of the cold zone on the west shore so probably no where near beavers being on the ocean coast. Guess I'll find them when I move inland more just been working on a main base that has all I need to go with.

I'll have to keep an eye out for those Achatina as I killed a few tonight not realizing until seeing your response what they put out. What do they feed on for taming???

On the island, the closest beaver location would be the little river inlet nw of the redwood biome. Next closest would be its ne river side of the redwood biome or north of that location just north of the rocky pillars in that gorge. in the river area there or Hidden Lake.

There are only around 6 ish location of beavers on the map but their spawn chances also depend on the rng and the hostiles in the vicinity who might kill them as soon as they spawn.

The snails can be good, but they're hard to tame and keep, because all they ever eat is sweet veggie cakes. They won't take berries or vegetables, nor meat. You have to make the veggie cakes for them pretty regularly, and getting the resources to make that can be awkward.

yeah I noticed that after so will hold on them for now as don't have sap or honey yet so will have to work that out later for now I know where to get the glue I need.

leeches react on the tame you'r riding.
E.g. a leech won't attack you while riding a bary if you didn't attack it before.
