How to tame a Shadowmane EASY
If you want to tame a Shadowmane easily is (1. Make a lot of signposts (2. when the Shadowmane you want to tame lays down put on your gillie armor and move behind it (3. Take the signposts and place them in a way so you will still be able to feed it when it lays down. Now whenever you feed it tame it how it would normally be tamed and make sure you move far away from it as not to teleport to you and escape from the signposts. (Fish 1.4 and larger will not lower tame effectiveness so you can get yourself an 100% effectiveness shadowmane)

Can angler fish work for feeding them during tames? They don't have size values, but I wonder if the level will make a difference. And those could be bred as needed rather than having to catch coel/salmon.

Have you tried? Not saying they definitely would, but I've been surprised by unexpected game mechanics before.

No i havent tried but in the eyes of the game its not a fish, its a dinosaur. You can tame em. Cant tame fish

Putting a fish in a basket 'tames' it. Yes you can't ride it, and they will not eat from troughs etc, but they are counted as a tamed creature as evidenced by the fact they have a green name floating above their heads when you release them, and are counted as part of the player's tribe.

So a coel or salmon, when in a fish basket, is counted as a tamed creature, and the shadowmane accepts the basket item with a tamed creature in it. The only question would be, would a tamed angler in the same fish basket be counted as the same 'item' that the shadowmane's taming mechanic requires?

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't, but we'd have to test it to be certain.

Ah kk, perhaps there is some difference between those tames and the fish in the baskets then. Well, worth a try, would have been nice if a bred tame could be used instead of having to run around looking for other fish lol
