But in non-BR terms, and in the case of Ark, it just means what Alpha said above: The pass allows you access to a certain collection of DLC, defined by the description on the store page, and that DLC will be yours permanently to use as often as you like. Other collections are covered by other season passes.
There are 2 passes. Purchasing either means you keep the dlcs in them. It doesn't expire.
Best thing to think then on this is season being like a TV season. You get the season of episodes(dlcs).
Main seasons pass(better bought as the explorer edition typically for the cheaper side):
Scorched Earth
Aberration
Extinction
Second pass is for Genesis:
Genesis 1
Genesis 2(not yet released).
But keep in mind there are also 4 free dlcs. The season passes above primarily wall you from access to those maps. All the dinos and assets can be had even without the dlcs either by using spawn in admin commands in single player, or modded content found on unofficial servers/single player(majority of the player base play unofficial servers and hence why there are 50,000+ of those servers vs the 1300ish official ones)
TLDR; its a dlc bundle.
How about just reading the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ store page for the Season Pass carefully?
you would have seen this Passage:
"About This Content
Continue your quest for ultimate survival and unlock a whole new chapter in the saga of ARK: Survival Evolved with the ARK: Genesis Season Pass! This Season Pass gives you access to two new huge expansion packs, a 'Noglin' Chibi cosmetic, and also an exclusive in-game robotic AI companion called ‘HLN-A’ who can scan additional hidden Explorer Notes found throughout the other ARKs."
so what exactly is unclear about what that season pass means?
why the hell do people complain about ♥♥♥♥ that is described in full, is beyond my grasp.
The ONLY person in this thread that was abusive towards another that simply asked a question.
My respect goes to those that helped and was respectful. But you, disgusting.
He's not wrong in the general sense of those things though, Dagre. It was indeed a user end issue to not carefully do their own due diligence and read what the store page was referring to, especially since most games use the "season pass" the same way. However, it still can be confusing and plenty of us have tried to sort it for em.
So calling people, one don't know, Kinds is okay nowaday and not abusive, Kid?
Well given some events in the last 12 months i guess we both know how biased your opinion on that matter is, right?
To Gran You have been reported and i have asked for you to be removed from these forums, lets just hope you don't have form of being aggressive and abusive to people for no valid reason.
As you are most likely not a native English speaker looking at your profile, i will explain. Please look up the word 'season' and then the word 'pass' in the English Oxford dictionary which is the bible for the English Language. Neither of these words indicate permanence. The text you quoted does not say you will own these permanently. Hence the conflict between the stupid description and what you actually receive, and in turn the question. It's not that complicated is it?
In the old days most likely way before you were born, this type of content was called patches, game updates, expansion packs etc and so forth. In other word people knew what they were by the depicted title, you see? Its not hard to follow is it?
What has happened in the so called modern world is, we have a very large number of youngsters or the newer generations, who are now game developers. To me, they are kids, you see? I call my 40 old nephews Kids, you see again? It's like an term of endearment in some ways. its because of the age difference, you see? Again, not complicated when its spelt out.
Now these Kids (There! I've said it again) Are constantly trying to reinvent the wheel with all sorts of fangled words, when it was perfectly fine as it was, yet they meddle. Someone comes up with some idiotic idea of calling things by words that do not describe the contents. Eh? Why? One company does it, then anothers follow suit because its 'cool' and so they don't miss out so forth, until it's normalised and becomes mainstream. It's part of the process of dumbing down which you are actually guilty of, as you use the word 'Gotten' which is american miss use of the English language, yet you are German. You use to to appease the many so you are accepted by the many So before you go criticising people do some research.
If it's a dog, then is a dog! It's not a cat, a car, a shoe or a house, It's a DOG. A dog is called a dog so it is universally recognisable to everyone within that language scope. If you start calling it a cat then it is no longer universally recognised. then it gets complicated and language gets watered down, You see? It's pretty simple really. It's is what languages do and what they are for and they have set meanings for a VERY good reason.
Now please take your vile and totally unnecessary attitude else where. I asked a civil and sensible question. Got it? I have some exceptionally nice Germans i play with in games and you have let the side down. Well done!
When you say "wall" do you mean you can't play those free dlc maps if you buy the season pass? I'm trying to decide if I should just buy the base game to see if I like it, or buy the explorer edition for more savings.
If you buy the basic game only, you cannot play on servers that are from the DLC's(all the dlcs, free or paid) are maps... (except for primitive plus which is a broken mess that devs really do not maintain anymore).
So if you only have the base game, that's the island map. So in Ark, if you play on official servers or unofficial servers that are part of a cluster(group of different maps), you are restricted to only playing the maps you have access to.
4 dlc's are free with 3 having maps: Center, Ragnarok, Valguero, and Crystal Isles.
3 Maps included in the explorer edition(ie the base game and 3 dlc's): Scorched Earth, aberration, Extinction.
So if you don't have a dlc(free or paid), you cant play on the servers using them, be it paid or free ones.
---------
Now with all that said, the most important thing besides all that is that you make sure you actually have a rig capable of playing the game. If you look at the store page's min requirements and your rig is below, at, or only a sliver above the min requirements, I do not recommend you get the game until you have a better rig.
Just something to consider, while gran's language was course in his direct response to you, it was not really rising to the language and inane way you're responding to him. His contentions with GP is something different entirely and I'd not recommend getting in the middle of that.
But since you want to discuss prescriptive vs descriptive discourse in regards to the phrase "season pass", I can cite various games for you on here that have used "season pass" in the same way that Wildcard has. This is not a new nor particularly rare usage on steam and other game platforms.
Using the OED to support your stance in your counter argument is thus not wholly accurate in regards to the games industry. Perhaps you are not well versed in the various games that have used this language over the years and that's fine if so. This then is why I said it was a prescriptive (OED) vs descriptive (how its used in the discussions here and else where about games) discourse consideration. You are apart of a living language, and age really isn't a factor. Just to make the point more apt, my first game console was a sears console in '77. So again, lack of familiarity is fine, as long as you ground it accordingly and go from there.
But keep in mind the basic stance gran took regarding the fact that the store pages for the products that ark offers do clearly state the content given when purchased is rather succinct. Thus his exasperation, while again coarse, was not without merit.
The rest of your diatribe though really is your going to his level(or lower?)
All in all, you seemingly understand both what the different products from ark give you and are now perhaps more acquainted with the jargon.
Good hunting to you.
Lets just answer that, cause the rest was just plain nonsense anyway. Exactly where in the quoted text from the Store Page, or on the Store Page itself, does it say that the access/ownership is limited to a number of days or months? Nowhere, ups what a surprise. Small hint, contracts do not rely on assumptions one may make up on how someone titled something, but on cold hard facts written on the store page (or in the contract). But you really should know that given your "superior age", right?
And I not even go down the road that this "Season Pass" Question Horse was beaten to death a dozen times over.
Oh and for what it was called in the old days, in the really old days there where no patches, nor downloads. Just you and a cartridge or a compact cassette, but hell what do i know of old days
One last question, you do see the irony in that, do ya?
In fact I think what retsam replied to you was pretty reasonable.
In Gran’s first reply he just showed his understanding towards your question from another angle. Apart from the fact that he behaved a bit aggressive, I don’t find his answer incorrect. Yet it’s really your responsibility to find out the answer from the steam store page; but asking for helps in the forum is also another approach of solving the problem. So the question lies to personal style, maybe Gran thought you should do this simple task yourself, but you would rather to ask for helps, and neither was wrong.
Additionally Gran didn’t offend you in any mean in his first reply. That was the business between him and GP, the moderator. Trying to provoke him with your another degree of abuse will only make the situation worse. Simply questioning someone else’s language and cultural background is not a peaceful way of suppressing a flamewar.
In fact TBH, speaking of the fight between GP and Gran, I was a bit surprised as well.
.
@GP, and of course you are the mod.
Jumping out of the topic, IMHO as a moderator, you should have clamed yourself down first instead of provoking him with your another level of anger as soon as you joined the discussion, and ended up leading him out of control, flaming the thread. You meant to be an anti-troll instead of trolling-a-troll. And remember people here are from different cultures; maybe some of the words mean nothing to you, but he might find it disturbing. Like what OP felt to Gran’s replies, Gran didn’t feel comfortable to yours either.
Some other guys in this post behaved much calmer than you did. Just sayin.
@OP
To reiterate, I am not accusing or helping any side. But still, hope you can understand the underlying reason, and enjoy the answer that you accept.
