How does dung beetle work?

So I've been kinda taking a break from Ark, but I still keep up with it. But there's one thing I'm kinda confused about the dung beetle. In the spotlight, it didn't seem to pick up the poop. It just kinda walked around it. Does it not automatically pick up the poop, or do you put it in its inventory and it works like a compost bin?

yea, people, come on. Dung Beetles are extremely OP. I am literally raking in hundreds of fertilizer a day with 8 dung beetles. I can fill like 15 plant turrets with fertilizer a day. At this rate I could litter the whole island with plant turrets in like 2 months if the alpha tribe let me get a way with it.

1 dung beetle, weight 14, filled exclusively with small poops, that's about 45 poops, and therefore 45 fertalizer, and 90 oil, in less than an hour.

Yeah, utterly useless...

Why fill it with small poop?
Why not go get a phomia and stuff it full of stim berries.
Poop city.
Fill the beetle up.
No problem FREE OIL AND FERT

It's not useless
It has a use.
Crops? Save that 50 thatch, or more.
I have a pit of small plots 1 beetle. I get over 600 in one day.

But if you don't want that beetle i'll take it. :)

If you're putting anything but small poops in your beetles btw, you're wasting them, just look at the weights of the respective poops, what you get per different sized poop, and do the sums.

Same here. Well, I can't find that many seeds or build the irrigation, but YEEE

Crop plots don't need irrigation with current rainfall rates.

It turns 1 Large poop into 3 bags of fertilizer in less than like 10 mins. It's a godsend to farmers. I don't see why everyone is whining

Do you mean that it does in 10 minutes with 1 poop what would take 3 * 1 hour with 9 poop + the thatch? AND gets you oil on top of it? Sounds like this should be nerfed.

Should nerf compost bins too because being able to grow crops instead of picking berries by hand is way to OP.

It can help grow foods, narcs, and advanced crops. It can make oil so you don't have to venture into the dark ocean.
