If you are able to play single player on a locally hosted dedicated server instead of using the game's official single player mode, that would fix the issue somewhat and make gigas and carchas more common. On a dedicated server the game can spawn creatures across the map, not just in the small area where the player is.
However if you cannot set up a dedicated server on your own machine, then it might be best to use the mod Skyguard mentioned in the other thread to force them to spawn more frequently. I know I said that mod would not be needed on the Island as the creatures do naturally spawn there, but if you are particularly hunting them and want a lot of them to show up more frequently, then the mod could adjust that for you.
