Coel Spawning at specific sizes?
Anyone know how to spawn a Coel at like size 2.7? Also, what's the biggest Coel you ever found? Feel free to share!

I found a 2.7 as my biggest.

I saw two 2.9s yesterday...even grabbed picks. Would love to see a 5, if such a thing exists.

I saw a 3.3 the other night while taming my castoroides. One of my tribemates said he saw a 3.8 while looking for his though.

Lucky you!

I would love to be able to 'tame' and transport some of these.

By tame, I mean along the lines of taking ownership so that they do not despawn, and then move them to another area with water.

Then, you would set them up so that they breed, producing similar size offspring, which can either be harvested or 'tamed'.

Taming could be as simple as passively feeding them, like an Ichthy. And, having raised fish before, the ones I had seemed to recognize the container of food when we fed them; you could stick it up to the glass and they would follow it. At the very least, it was fun.

Another method would be the rod and reel method, or good ole bamboo pole, where you have to hook and land them, and then get them back to a new water source, before they die; sort of like a spoiler timer.

Finally, for breeding, the number of offspring would be limited, in part, based on the number of 'tamed' you have and the total number of fish in the area.

125% agree. Would totally make a lake base just to have my own pond.

Here i am in 2024 looking up methods to find the biggest fish because you can tame them now and use them for shadowmane taming.

They nerfed large sized fish because a bunch of people were promoting the use of ascendent fishing rods to farm tons of high level blueprints.

It was actually pretty effective, but there were WAY easier methods to farm those BPS. The ascendent fishing rods in question dropped from alpha tseuthos (giant squids) and they aren't repairable. You'd only be able to use them for so long to farm stuff. Pretty sure streamers were just spawning the fishing rods in with admin commands. The alpha squids are pretty uncommon from what I've personally run into. Having chests entirely filled with those fishing rods seemed... fishy, to me.

From what I remember of my own shadowmane taming, there was a specific size of fish that resulted in no loss of taming effectiveness. I want to say it was 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3. Anything below that size resulted in a loss of taming effectiveness. For every 0.1 below that point, there was an increasing amount of taming loss.

Annoyingly, after the nerf on fish size, the most common fish anywhere around where the shadowmanes spawned were piranha of 0.9 size. it was possible to find some bigger ones, but 0.9 were everywhere. I personally stopped even caring that much, and tried to minimize the loss, but I definitely stopped trying for "perfect" tames on shadowmanes. They glitch out if you don't keep feeding them, and they have a tendency to glitch out even when you're doing everything perfect.

Definitely DO NOT trying the idiotic method of sneak up to them on foot, and feed them while sleeping. That whole concept was utterly broken.

I used a taming trap with a false bottom floor that I saw in a nooblets video. At the time I used it, it worked GREAT. Still had to be careful to avoid run into the thing, but I could feed them with very little risk. The traps also kept them from running off like chickenheads, endless attacking everything that moved. BTW, build more then one trap. My biggest headache was entire packs of shadowmanes where they were ALL worth taming. A 150 female (on a max level 150 server), with a 150 male, and a 145 male all in the same pack. I made three traps, so I could trap and store the others while concentrating on the best one first. Do not try to tame 2 or 3 at one time, I messed that up everytime or simply couldn't get fish fast enough to keep feeding them.

Choose one shadowmane, and feed all fish to it until it's tamed. Then go look at the others.

Also be prepared for them to get out of the traps if you leave and return to the area. While they area is being rendered, the animals appear first, then any structures that have been built appear secondly. So for a split second, it's possible for them to run out of the trap before it's rendered in. Doesn't matter how powerful your computer is, it's just a side effect of how it's rendered by the game But it's fixable. You just lead them back into the taming trap, and trap them again.

Spawning in is possible, but it depends on the map...some can spawn the squids pretty consistently. Ragnarok, for example - if you go to the far west trench where the artifact is and clear out all the squids there repeatedly, you can pretty much guarantee that one or two of them every pass will be an alpha of some level. They pop up extremely frequently there.

Nice to know, thank you for that info. I was trying to say that their nerf of fish because of the blueprints was kind of an overreaction. It's not something new players would have easy access to, and I think of MANY much easier ways to get high level BPs.

I have seen a huge reduction of large size fish, and I've begun to personally think (without much evidence) that one system spawns them, and another system eliminates them if they're too large. The combination of the two means that there are far far far less fish in some bodies of waters. I used to remember the ponds in the ice areas of genesis 1 being ridiculously full of fish, with many of them topping out in the high 2's or low 3's for size. Now when I check the same lakes, they're frequently just completely empty of fish. Doing full dino wipes may restore some, but when I leave and come back, the lake will be empty again.
