As far as I know, there is a limit to how many structures you can add to the platform, and there is a limited range about how far they can go too.
I read somewhere that the structures add only a portion of they normal weight to the platform, however I also saw an old video of another person explaining that they don't add weight at all. The weight of the structures however seem to be the least of one's worries in either case.
I am still looking for an explanation about how to actually armor a platform dino with build up walls on it, and about what type of attacks it is effective against, since I have been reading it mentioned a lot.
I presume by now that these walls are only effective against ranged attacks since big creatures tend to phase through the walls and small creatures tend to hit the feet of the platform saddle dinos; but it is very hard to find some more accurate information about this matter either...
What you assume is correct for the most part, dinos can phase through structures while the platform dino is in motion and so can get inside the structures, and if it's a creature with a big AoE like a rex it may end up damaging the dino inside anyway. So structures are generally only beneficial against ranged attacks like turrets and plant turrets. And most platform dinos have been nerfed now so that you can't build below the level of the saddle anyway, so in most cases it's a null point now as building bronto shield walls and box quetzals can no longer be done.
It should be said, however, that with building mods such as S+/SS it is still possible to build below the saddle. And when doing so, you'll find that so long as the platform dino isn't in motion, the walls you build will act as proper walls and stop creatures from phasing through. It's only when the platform moves that the glitches occur. In fact, the walls will block line-of-sight for predators too, so as long as you don't walk into a rex to the point where it does phase through the wall, you can effectively make your tame completely invisible. I have a few paracer 'walking tank' builds in my screenshots gallery which takes advantage of this detail.
I will just mention for the record though - some people on this forum take quite a dim view to old threads being bumped back up to the top of the forum (I don't mind myself, but there are some who feel strongly about it). So if you wish to continue the discussion further, I would perhaps recommend making a new thread about it rather than continuing this discussion here.
