Can someone explain all this hate to me?
I can't grasp it. I mean, I have Ark and i have put over 11K hours into it. I love the game. I will gladly buy Survival Ascended because I feel i way more than got my money's worth of fun from Survival evolved.

Why are people in such an uproar? Is it because it was originally going to be a free upgrade? So what? They probably either didn't realize the cost of it or are just looking to make more profit. And? They made a great game.

A buggy game? Yes, so what? I still enjoyed it.

Is it that they can't settle on a price? That seems to be because people are all in a tizzy about it being paid at all which is another thing i just don't get.

Call me simple if you wish but I would appreciate it if someone could just explain to me why people are so mad.

I'm personally very excited for Survival Ascended.

You've got a few different reasons for what I've gathered reading these forums:

  1. ASA wasn't going to be "ASA" at all and was just going to be an upgrade to UE5 with no loss of save data (UnOfficials and Non-Dedi/Single Player saves aren't going anywhere)
  2. ASA is now actually ASA and save-data is going to be lost (non-transferable) (Including the shut-down of Official Servers of ASE to be replaced with ASA servers)
  3. ASA is now going to cost money when it was prematurely said it was going to be a free upgrade and not the re-write that it's going to be now (Which is why save-data is going to be lost and they're shutting down ASE servers)
  4. Owners of ASE isn't getting a discount for ASA in any shape or form in many people's eyes (Except I'm fairly certain we are when you look at the price we paid for ASE at retail, not including when any of it was on sale)
  5. There was outrage because the first offer included ARK 2 and many folks didn't want ARK 2 at all until they saw videos or something showing off the game (Which is why they separated it in this last offer)
  6. Now there's outrage that folks are speculating that ARK 2 will cost standard new title release value instead of a suspected possible $30 or so? (Every price-point speculated for ARK 2 is literally just that, speculation. No one's said anything more about a price for ARK 2 and first offer didn't break down what was ASA and what was ARK 2 value.)
  7. There was outrage that the first bundle was just the base map (Island) and didn't include the DLC's from ASE (which is now ASA) and they'd have to be purchased separately for their own $20 USD. (This was still the bundle that included ARK 2 mind you)
  8. Folks are mad that they aren't "fine polishing" ASE and are instead going to do it in ASA (Even though they've come out said they can't do this fine polish to ASE because the code is far too gone and a mess)

I think that about sums up what I've gathered based on all these ranting and complaint threads.
I'm sure someone will come along to "correct me" on some of these points because of personal views, etc; But that sums it up.
I tried to keep my points as non-bias as possible and contain only what I've seen and included what I've read from WC personally.

EDIT:
As Hermit pointed out below:
  1. Many are unhappy with the concept of paid mods being added to the game via Overwolf. (This is up to the Mod Devs if they want to apply the charge for use of their mods btw, 50% of cost going to Overwolf to allow cross-platform modding support)
  2. Many point to WC's history of broken promises, delays and general lack of quality in their products, and do not feel they can trust the company to deliver on yet another sweeping set of commitments.
  3. Many feel like the whole deal is a cash-grab due to WC's parent company apparently struggling with funds of late, and feel that it is all anti-consumer and disingenuous to their fanbase. (Snail Games has tried to copy the ARK formula, each attempt has failed miserably and caused a massive loss in funds. Far as I know, ARK is their only source of real income and they bled money trying to mimic it)

What Zera said is true, those are many of the reasons. A couple of additional ones to note as well:

*) Many are unhappy with the concept of paid mods being added to the game via Overwolf.

*) Many point to WC's history of broken promises, delays and general lack of quality in their products, and do not feel they can trust the company to deliver on yet another sweeping set of commitments.

*) Many feel like the whole deal is a cash-grab due to WC's parent company apparently struggling with funds of late, and feel that it is all anti-consumer and disingenuous to their fanbase.

You're right, I will add those to my original list :P

There is one core issue:
- Wildcard performed a "Bait-and-Switch" tactic when they initially advertised "Buy ARK2, get updated ARK1 free" and then took out the word "free" in updated announcement. 99% of the emotional responses are tied to that single issue alone, the rest is noise and over-typing by respondents here.

Was hardly ever a "for free" moment, considering that even the initial offer had you paying for ASA.

I think i understand better now. Still, the only thing that would ruffle my feathers is i hand't already got my money's worth would be the lack of discount. The other stuff I guess people will be mad if they want to be.

Some people are really upset Diablo IV doesn't have WASD and all of that rage is being misdirected at Ark.

I have no hate but who has time to play 11,000 hours in games? I seem to be a bit uninformed but in my opinion this game was and is mediocre at best. I noticed another post about updates and such that are requesting payment. Again, this game is pretty lackluster in my opinion . To each their own I suppose. I won't be spending anything more on this title but for those that deem it is worth the investment then more power to them.

And that's exactly where I sit. I got more than my money's worth out of it and if they're going to spruce it up with a big pretty bow and put an extra few puppies inside... You bet I wanna wear that bow on my head and pet those puppies! :steamhappy:

Those are the kind of hours that are built up over years and if you have a lot of free time.
Or if you're one of those folks who just leaves a game running at the main menu overnights. 🤣

I feel the same way OP and coincidentally we have similar played time.

Some of us are pissed because a known malware distribution network (Overwolf) is being inserted into ASA

I wonder how much influence communist China has over Wildcard. Would the company sink as low as to have spyware in Ark ? Like Tik Tok videos. There are no "private" companies in China, so Snail Games has some form of government control included.

Snail Games owns WC and they are Chinese devs so good luck with this "upgrade" / spy malware data harvesting lol.

I'll be sticking to the awesome no mod official rates on a unofficial server that me and many have been playing on for years with few to no wipes for a over a year and with active admins where cheaters / trolls are banned instantly and can really get the fullness of ark without getting PvP stress hacker troll bs, which what this games official servers are good at.

Probably all the try hard / duping / cheaters / brats that are mostly mad officials are getting shut down or the famous follow the cool hate bandwagon looking for something to complain about as always you know the pathetic never satisfied sjw gen.
