If that is the case though, you still have options. You can press Tab to bring up the game's admin console, and use admin commands to regain what you have lost. For example, type this to give your character experience and level back up to the level of your old character:
AddExperience 1000 0 1
Change the number 1000 to increase or reduce the xp you gain. Leave the other numbers as they are.
And to retake control of your base. walk right up to it and look straight at it from very close range, press Tab, and type this:
GiveAllStructure
Do the same as above, walking up to and looking at things, but with each of your tamed dinos, and type this:
GiveToMe
Then once you have all your stuff back, you can continue to play the new character as if it were your old one, and little will have changed. Also, I would recommend keeping regular manual backups of your saves just in case something like this happens again in future.
Ideally if you have all of those, it should simply be a case of cutting out the current files from the folders and pasting those backup ones in instead. What map are you playing on?
Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal
In that folder you may have saves for The Island map, and other mod maps from the Workshop too. Probably best to copy everything in there and save it as a backup elsewhere so you have that to restore to if something goes wrong.
But yeah, once you've done that, find the map save Olympus.ark, the character file LocalPlayer.arkprofile, and the .arktribe file which will likely be named just a long string of numbers. Delete those, and then copy the same files from the backup you have into that folder. Hopefully that should restore everything back to when you took the backup initially.
