Some people like the challenge.

Have to admit though, I personally am not a fan of hardcore survival games, so I too really disliked this game when I first tried it. But then I discovered the config settings that the devs opened up to us players, allowing us to tweak all kinds of gameplay to make the game work as we wish. I sat down with those for a while, adjusting things and testing, and finally found a setting which I like to play with. It is somewhat more forgiving than the default difficulty, but I find it enjoyable.

So I'd recommend looking into those settings, play with them a bit and see if you can find a balance that you're happy with. If there's something you don't like about the game, chances are there may be a setting to adjust it to make it more fun for you.

And it get's easier as you progress. You get better gear and dinos to help. You learn more and get better but then you will still get Arked. Ark will occasionally get you no matter how good or prepared you get.

Just has a learning curve. it really is not to bad once you start progressing.

I also gave up after the first couple of attempts and couldn't imagine ever getting the hang of it but I kept going back and I also tweaked the settings to suit my meagre abilities and... I still find it very hard and rage quit regularly but something keeps bringing me back lol

it's as difficult as you want.
There are almost endless configs and mods to change pretty much everything you want.

If it's to difficult you are just to lazy to make it easier ;-)
