Start of near the blue but in the fertile land

Don't pick up roll rat gems unless you can kill it or run, it aggros. Metal is rare in the green/fertile area, the rocks with blue cracks in the blue area are metal ore. Easiest way to get oil is trilobites. Ravagers can climb natural and man made ziplines. They have a gnashing effect that slows and removes a persentage of health but not when tamed, they also jump high and not very far forwards, good early game mound for metal too, have a metal 50% weight reduction as well as many other resources. Rollrats are the phiomias and wood collectors but have an expensive saddle which loses durability when you roll. Soinos are good for getting rock Drake eggs on foot but bring 2 sets of hazmat. There are no flyers only gliders.

Grapples don't work in most places and the surface is on fire during the day, the cycle is random though. If you go into the blue without a light pet then nameles will chase you, if the aloha/glowing red one is alive for too long a reaper king spawns.

if you're on pvp and its just you and maybe a friend, a good place to start is near the norther lake; make your way there and move east along the coast; youll come to the end of the coast, crawl between the wall and the massive rock and you'll find a fairly large area with which to build. From there you have a personal mini-lake, over which you have a small access to water. The main enterance is easily defendable against dinos and players, only risk is above, which you can get zipline arrows and a ravager to climb up so you can put defenses if you desire.

I use the spot often, was only found once.
The daytime isn't actually random as was said earlier, but it does change every few days.
Those green vines you see everywhere are all natural ziplines. Ravagers can climb those as was stated but you can too I think once you get a zipline motor.
Some things in the radiation zones are capable of hitting you directly and damaging your armor, never go down there without a second hazard suit.
There is a crazy amount of metal nodes down in the blue zone. I'm currently based down there, and I sometimes have trouble finding rocks for flint.
Also, in some parts of aberration there are seekers, they work the opposite way nameless do: They chase you if you have a light on, and when they're in a light they're stronger.
The hazard suit is probably the best armor available to you on aberration because of its utility, it helps with more than just radiation, I never take mine off except to repair it.
When the shrooms get you, it's not random, there's a specific one that does it and that one looks different than the others.

If you're in the green zone and you spot a mushroom with a conical red cap and a red stripe around it's base, stand next to it immediately.

A decent spot for a early game base, i would suggest the fertile lake top left of the map, against the wall below the yellow crystal plateau. Dont enter that little cave without a lightpet and brown mushrooms, but its loaded with metal and keratin + has access to an easy surface area.

The area itself isnt to bad maybe even saver then right next to the lake itself, and since your bellow the plateau wild dino's wont just fall down into your starter base. Water is a bit tricky to get up there though, but not impossible either.

Get megalosaurus asap, no daytime debuff

Farm nameless with impunity

Tame multiple light pets and leave them as a backup at your base. Saves you some hassle when you die and need to get back to your stuff.

Edit: The Portal is labelled the easiest spawn, but basilisks spawn in that area, and there's no access to real water. I don't recommend it.

Also, it's not important for the start, but purple water is not water.
It doesn't matter that you can see that river just above falls into the purple water, it's still not water.
It doesn't matter that all the wild spinos, lampreys, and jellyfish can swim in it just fine.
Don't swim in it.
Don't try to drink from it.
Don't touch it.
Don't look at it for too long.
It's actually pools and rivers of concentrated, liquified murder.

Close yes, almost dead-on 11-51.
Metal and Crystal will be your only issue, but a lot of larger dinos spawn in the area, and tons of Spinos, so going out and gathering in bulk is easy to do, plus as mentioned earlier, the easy-to-defend location
