When you reach lvl 2, you get the stone hatchet and then you go and hit rocks. That's how I get stone.
Alternatively, Utility Saddles mod with a carry weight attachment on a quetz. Enables it to carry twice as much or more at higher levels.
That being said, recently I've taken to doing ground expeditions with my anky, bronto and a couple of big preds to protect them. Yes it isn't as fast or efficient as flying to collect the resources, but it's a whole lot more fun. Feels like a real adventure, traveling all that way across the Center's many rivers and back again, fighting off attacking dinos on the way.
With regard to stone specifically, I don't cart it back in bulk. I take a doed and a beaver out together, gather a lot and put it on the beaver (reduced weight when carried by them), then craft it all into the stone walls/foundations/whatever I need. Since the crafted elements usually weigh less than the materials that built them, they can then be shipped back on a heavy flyer relatively easily.
I have three transport bears, Lady Lockbox, Leonbox, and Tifa Lockbox. They're where all decent bears in the wild, I think Lady lockbox was the lowest and she was still 118 or so, then I dumped all their level ups into weight. Now I ride the doed out, and whistle for the first transport bear to follow the doed, then jump on the bear and whistle for the next bear to follow it, etc. This creates a train of pets following me around as I attack the stones with the doed. When the doed gets full, I just move stones over to the bears. As long as you stay just shy of the limit where they loose their sprint, they can move the load around at a decent speed thanks to their momentum charge sprint ability.
Thats my method. I use a similar method for gathering metal, just replace the doed with an ankylo.
I'm not saying I have issues with doing it to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ who posted that. I was simply curious about other people and there methods of transportation of mass quantities in this game.
Or as someone has stated - a farming party of a high Lvl dire bear on neutral with high Lvl weight beavers behind 2 mate boosted doeds. You do not have to go back to base. Craft and farm baby.
A high Lvl bear on neutral is great for protection. Unless you walk straight into a wild giga or high Lvl alpha Rex xD
What are you crafting with it? If youre crafting stone structures then bring a beaver pre-loaded with thatch / wood. If you're crafting cement paste or spark powder then come with a foundation and mortar ready to be set down to craft it there.
I haven't played on the center since the big update, but you may want to look for spots that are super easy to farm and build a small base near it.
Beavers work, I just personally prefer the bears cause a high quality one even leveled exclusively for weight works as a body guard for the convoy too. Dat mean old Rex eyeballing your doed? The bears say "NOPE, NOT TODAY!" and smack him around till hes a bloody pile of meat... also bears are easy to feed, they like both meat and berries.
Giga is still a problem, but three to four bears ganging up on an Alpha rex tends to chew it pieces.
The next step is to get an Tpera or Argy. They will help you get resources that would normally require u to run through Rex, Reptor, scorp ect territory with ease.
after that, its time for a quetz. They are like a super argy cuz they hold lots more.
If you want pearls/chitin/oil, go find a spot with Trilobites and pearls. theres a REALLY good spot in the south eastern bay in the redwoods under the natural stone ramp. Just be careful not to run out of stamina.... so make a boat and put a bed on it to save ur self.
