How useful is fortitude?
I've got 20 points into it (so 40 fortitude, according to the wiki that's +83 hypo and hyperthermal insulation. At 98(f) my character is still suffering from the heat even in full cloth gear (I know it's not ghillie but still) and 40 fortitude. So I'm sure when it gets cold, likewise even in some decent cold resistant gear (not fur, but still) my character will be suffering from the cold..

So.. Bottom line - I feel like fortitude is freaking useless unless it's invested in so heavily that I neglect other very important stats. IS it as useless as I think it is?

I'm actually thinking I might join the mermen, sounds fun. I've usually just operated outside the water, not keen on water. But with the new underwater areas, sea crates, and increased water dino's, water living seems more attractive.

They need to add a dino that gives anyone near the dino 'water breathing'. That'd be cool. like the insulation effects of penguins or dimetrodon's. So you can make an underwater base, with your special dino nearby to live and operate forever under water. Then, underwater frees, stones, berries lol

Sorry.. this is 'slightly' off topic. lol

Supposedly some day we'll have under-water building materials we can deploy that will generate breathable atmosphere inside. The've been saying that for about a year though.
in the mean time, i have a mod for that :)

I have 74 fortitude. I plan on getting it to 80. Its the best stat in the game hands down.

This ^^^^^^ went on and on and on about temp. It also provides resistance to disease and resistance to torpor effects such as scorpion, snake and frog attacks. It also in the event you are knocked out means your torpor melts away so much faster so you wake up quicker.
I agree, just got mine to 70 and will try to get it to 80. Best stat!

I usually aim for 40 fortitude - that's not enough to stop you freezing/melting in extreme weather events, but it will up your resistance considerably, to the point where it requires such an extreme temperature to affect you. 90% of the time I can go to the snow biome in my underwear and not even get a snowflake, and can live in the lava biome on the Center without any heat damage so long as I don't wear riot or flak gear.

The reduced consumption rates at 30 fort are useful too. Couple it with cooked prime meat and you can go for as much as a day on a single meal, and I almost never have to drink from my canteen because it rains often enough to refill my thirst before I need to refresh.

Beyond that I tend to aim for 400 oxygen, because being able to out-swim almost any underwater animal is very handy, and hopping to the ocean floor for a quick pearl haul without having to go through the rigmaraul of suiting up with scuba is awesome. And then on long runs where I do get the scuba gear out, I can stay under for days at a time.

I usually get a bit of health and movement speed, just +100-200 or so, as they help in a pinch when you get ambushed by a big pred. And I level stamina with any spare points I have, but that isn't a priority for me.

My biggest goal in stats, though, is always carry weight. Even on multiplayer games when I'm playing with friends it's so useful to be able to unload metal from quetzals or stone from doeds quick, and I'm often the builder among my friends so I usually have to lug around a lot of foundations and walls. And on my single player games the weight is invaluable, not for bringing things back to base but for moving things around my home from dino to chest and chest to crafting station. When trying to craft a big machine or an ascendant saddle, the amount of materials you need is crazy, and having to make several trips back and forth is boring at best, irritating at worst. I get weight as high as possible.

You just stuff on castoroid to build anyway...
You don't have to worry about heat in the sea...
Fortitude can be handy against Eurypterid when they surprise you... But otherwise you just crossbow its face.
