Mining for metal...
Trying to obtain metal is kinda hard, with metal and primitive pickaxes. Does anyone know if there is a way to get them faster? WIth axes, I just get stone, and barely some flint, but it's supposed to do that.

Oh, what level do i need to get one? right now I'm level 27

Saddle is level 40, but when you get to that level it's well worth a tame. Not only is it the best at metal, it also does well at berries, thatch, flint, obsidian, crystal, rare flowers, rare mushrooms and oil too. It's like the Swiss army knife of dinos, has so many uses...

Ok so in order to try and help you I think the best thing to do would be to understand. When harvesting yourself with a tool, the tool matters; the better the quality of the pick axe, the more metal you will get; The more points in melee damage you have the more metal you will get. If you use an axe instead of a pick you will get stone rather than metal.
The people suggesting an anklyo are talking sense. Tame an anklyo, leave it on top of the mountain fly up to it with a few argies, mine and fill em up.

make a metal pick, gets way more metal, just need to get 2 pieces, and then look for goldy shiny rocks

you will find the most metal on mtns, litterally, so best to tame a ptera, and make small trips up there, what map are you on btw, so i can list some nice spots, center or island ( i dont know the mod maps at all, so if you are on one of those, sorry)

Kudos to blade for pointing out what we all forgot...Your only going to get the occasional metal from a "normal" rock. The gold shiny ones generally atop mountains are the "metal" ones, the little black ones (fyi) are obsidian.

And don't forget, Ankylo kibble is just made from cooked meat jerky and dilo eggs. I always tell new players to tame 3 dodo and 3 dilo (1 male 2 females) that will give you kibble for ankylo's, Deod's, and Ptera's.. three very useful dino's who's kibble is a breezy easy to make.

For the early game also when you are still a low level, there are "round rocks" especially in river edges and sometimes around the shorelines.

They aren't the huge boulders, they are a bit less common.

These have a higher percentage of metal also.

Once you get a metal pick, figure out where the nearest field of actual metal nodes is (the copper tinted boulders).

Oh, okay, also, do rocks respawn somwhere else or are they gone forever?
🦊 Hermit Jul 28, 2016 @ 4:37am
They will respawn in time. Make sure that any tamed dinos are not stood on that spot when they do respawn, as this can cause a glitch that forces your dino under the world where they will be lost.

they respawn, note theres a bug in single player mode that makes respawning not seem to happen, so if you are in single player you might get screwed

♥♥♥♥, I'm in singleplayer .-. When will the bug be fixed? In the next update?
