All data gets reset every time I restart my PC
Hey guys, having a bit of trouble with ark survival just wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and knows how to fix it. every time I turn the power off and back on, on my PC it's as if I just bought the game again, all single player general/advanced settings get reset and my character and world are just gone.....

This has been racking my brain for hours and the only issue I can think of is that I downloaded the game onto my Data (D:) drive instead of my Windows (C:) drive, so the game may be looking for the information in Program Files (x86) and can't find any so it just starts me off from the beginning again.

Obvious solution to this would be to move it to the windows drive however that drive only has 96GB of available space on factory reset which is not enough to hold Ark, there must be a way to run the game effectively from your Internal storage drive without it deleting all your data every time you restart your computer.

Ark and steam need to be on the same drive. This may be part of your problem.

Mine are on separate drives since 2015 and I do not have that problem, not saying its not possible, maybe on some systems but it should not do that.

You've said this now in multiple threads today. Problem is that this has been a common reason for issues in the past and when attempting to help folks to sort out things it doesnt actually help when saying that. Ark can have so many different variables for issues and sorting through the common ones first and then exploring is more exotic possibilities exist comes next.

I do think it's pretty common for Ark players to split their Steam install and game files though Ret, especially since Ark is such a big game. I myself have taken to doing that recently too, and I haven't had any issues with it either.

It's possible that having things on a different drive might be a factor in the issue here, I agree. But surely the fact that many do use the game in that way without issue suggests that there are other, separate factors which are triggering this particular case? Maybe the separate game data is contributing, but it in itself is not the sole cause...

Perhaps it would help to have more information. @PauZe - could you go to 'Help' in your Steam browser, select 'System Information', copy everything that appears in the box there and paste it in this thread?

True, maybe I did not word it properly or it just did not come out exactly how I was thinking. Maybe more of yes it is a possibility for some but not to just focus on that.
Anyway, been agreeing with you all these years, was nice to actually think a bit differently this time.
Apologies for derailing.

I had a weird issue similar to this a few years ago where my save files seemed to be getting deleted after each session therefore everything reset. Turned out my anti virus was quarantining the files after I closed the game. Did my head in trying to work that out.

Don't have the game on C:, Windows won't allow you to write there reliably.

Try manually save the game before exiting, make sure the savegame file is created, then take a manual backup up of it. Check when the file disappears, when you go to Main Menu? When you exit game? When you start computer? When you start game?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
