You can always tame the achantina (snail) they produce it too.
Living in the north (or many various areas) means that some resources require you to go out from there to of course get.
Cement paste is grabbed more in bulk from beaver dams scattered across the map for some but if on a server with ecocide having stopped beaver dam spawns, then bug hunting with a frog and chitin or taming snails from swamps may be your next best option.
On the island, there are certain beaches or area locations that tend to have lots of trilo spawns but again too, if people built there, you're left looking for such otherwise. Most are in the far south bottom sides of the map.
If Im playing in single player(and not using mods that let you farm paste differently) I just hop on a flyer and make a route between the 6 or so map locations beavers tend to build dams at.
Just make sure too to empty and destroy the dams and even killing the beavers helps. This lets respawns happen when you leave rendering which then can make dams appear faster usually.
This. If you have a decent level megatherium, even witha prim saddle, you should be able to fill its entire weight up with Chitin in just a few minutes. For CP, you can turn chitin into CP in a chem bench; your only real bottleneck will be stone since you can only get like 5k-8k from a dode run.
But a pretty decent option which is largely overlooked is dunkleosteus in the ocean. Killing one of those can net you quite a large amount of keratin depending on your harvest rates, and if you have a reasonably fast and powerful ocean mount you can circumnavigate the island quickly hunting them down.
I had no idea Dunkleosteus dropped Keratin. What Dino should I get for harvesting those guys or should I just hit them with tools?
As to creatures, I usually just use my basilosaurus, which is almost the only creature worth using in the ocean due to it's immunity to jellyfish and tusos. However if you're prepared to risk those two threats, a tuso, mosa or even plessie might be better as they have better attack and movement speed. Baryonix could even work at a pinch, especially if you have a good saddle for them.
Slight bad news: The snails are in the redwood (watch out for thylas). And you need sweet vegetable cakes to tame them. So that means you need tree sap, bee honey, advanced crops, etc. And veggie cakes are what they eat for food after taming.
Good news, is you can breed them after you have a pair. They have no genders, so a pair will both get pregnant at the same time.
as far as cement paste, the best way other than beaver dams is using a frog (bezelwhatever) to gobble up insects, and it will convert them into tons of cement ^_^
