Game Pass vs Steam

I've had Ark on steam since way back in the alpha/beta stages, and clearly it's out on xbox game pass now days. I just have the base game on steam, and i'm seeing that on the game pass version, you can get the Explorer's Edition, which comes with Scorched Earth, Aberration, and Extinction expansion packs. Now, tell me why I would want to pay for those separately on steam when they're free on game pass lol

There could be a number of reasons. Plus I don't believe it's WildCard's decision whether it is on gamepass or not, that's probably on Microsoft's end.

Once you play with a nice quality of life mod, you'll never want to go back.

Gamepass is the console version. So if you only want to play on xbox servers, without mods. Then go for it.

You don't have to buy it for xbox because it's on game pass, meaning it's free with the subscription of game pass. I have it on steam and on pc game pass. I was just stating that there's dlc that's literally free on the game pass version, that I would have to spend on steam to get instead.

I guess the real question is

A - Do you want mods?

B - Do you want to deal with all the bugs that the Microsoft and Console versions sport?

C - Do you have friends on what platforms?

D - Do you have a console that is advanced enough of an edition to run Ark without turning it into a living nuke?

I don't think price is the most important part in Ark and that you should be striving to get the best experience or the playstyle you want, and to be able to achieve it on the platform/edition you buy.

with a Gamepass subscription. Yes you have to pay the sub fee but that fee is for hundreds of games so your statement is not a reasonable one.


OP imo the dlc that are available to you in the GP version are not really very good when compared to the free dlc that is available plus mods, plus the Steam server kit. YMMV

ARK through Microsoft Store is the only version to play with the Xbox console version. Neither can play along side a Steam version. So you are stuck with those options for multiplayer, along with the previous mentioned lack of mods and such

Like I said, I don't have it on console lol. I have it both on steam and on pc game pass. I'd never play Ark on console.. the controls wouldn't feel intuitive to me.

His statement is very reasonable and valid. Calling something free while paying a fee for it are two things which can't coexist. Sorry, but you're clearly wrong.
