Transfering to new map on single player with my dinos... Need help
I am trying to transfer all my dinos as i dont plan to return to island. As my kid will be playing on game on that map. So i will delete my save once i move to new map :-) But I want to take all my dinos... i have 200 in cryopods. And saw i am very limited on total can transfer in obi. Any setting or mod to get past limit?

I've only played on dedicated servers, but I can say that uploading your character with cryopods in your inventory works on dedicated servers, if those servers are in a cluster.

Two caveats: Ark messes up the transfer if the number of objects in your inventory is anywhere near the max inventory limit (which I think is about 300, but in any case, I wouldn't carry anywhere near that limit when doing a server transfer),

The second caveat is that if you carried crypodded dinos to another server, whatever levels they had gained since you cryodded them would be lost. You could avoid that problem by removing them from the cryopod and leveling them up, then cryopod them before transferring them to another server by transferring with the cryopods in your inventory.

The safer bet is to make a dedicated server, then import your single player game into it. Then make a new map and cluster it with the your first server. That way, there is no need to delete your original save.

Although I'm sure that there must be a way for you to copy your original map into a back-up location, as well as the new map you want to make, instead of having to delete them. I just don't know how since that would be much harder for me to keep straight rather than making dedicated servers.
I can make backup of first map no problem. Its in saved folder in ark.
I dont understand dedicated servers. I tried look up ASM but didnt get far.. For some reason i couldnt understand what i was reading lol

I do want to try using that ASM to make a cluster map thing. As id like be able hop around easier.

If you can keep current copies of both the old and new maps, you can probably figure out how to swap between them to transfer everything you want between them. But I really don't know, since I've never done that in single player mode.

ASM gives you a graphical interface for managing dedicated servers. I suggest installing it, then making a new server to test it out. The hardest part is specifying the ports for your router, the mechanics of which varies between routers. Once you learn how to do that, the rest is easy.

As well as the fact that once you learn how do that for your router, you can make servers for other apps. Or you may discover that the router you chose (or the one your ISP gave you, at probably a high rental cost, that you should be able to return, and remove the rental costs to pay for a router of your choice, with probably much better performance.)

Edited Note: forgot to mention that some ISPs just rent you a modem, not a router. See, for example https://www.xfinity.com/hub/internet/modem-vs-router (this is not in any way an endorsement of xfinity, it was just the first link that showed up when I googled it, and seems reasonably accurate. I've usually bought Netgear routers, but my son, who does network stuff for a college campus, recently bought us an Asus router, which looks like some drone ready to fly off and bomb something. But as a router, it works great.)

i normally use netgear as well. But my ISP is satelite and sent a modem/router hybrid.

Can you link where to find ASM. As my google fu is lacking tonight :-(
https://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/5193/downloads

However, considering you're using satellite, you would probably want to specify an internal IP (something like 198.0.0.x,) for the server address to direct Ark server content to the PC running the Ark servers, rather than external, to keep it LAN only.

Edited Note: Plus, if you need more router ports, you can usually connect a router behind another router, using one of the connections in the first router.

Can daisy chain them yup. I use wifi mostly in house. So ports no issue. Will only be 2 PC at most on it. And ok thanks for the tip and link
ASM server setups usually require another computer/laptop that you are not playing the game on. It is easy to setup, especially if you are familiar with Ark and servers. If not, there is a learning curve. Just keep in mind, Ark needs at least one Core on CPU per map and roughly 10+ gigs Ram per map.

Need to learn port-forwarding, have Nat-Loop Router, learn firewall permissions for in-bound, need to learn ini file customization, and generally understand all the Ark settings.

It may be easier and Cheaper to rent a couple Servers from G-Portal for a few months. That way you will learn server setup, maintenance and Admin stuff. Then after that try to setup a cluster on another dedicated machine in the house.

FTP into server using WinSCP or similar program is very easy, then it is just drag n drop basically file transfer.

As for Singleplayer item and dino transfer, sadly you are limited to like 50 slots for items and "X" slots for Dino uploads. Sometimes when uploading dinos in singleplayer, they go poof, so be prepared for that reality. So depending how much you want to transfer, it may take many trips.

Scorched is the easiest map, so you could go naked and conquer it from there. Abb however, I would just bring whip BPs and silk so you can craft and repair more. Especially since Abb, not all dinos can be used on that map. You can still take the cryopod, but just cannot deploy it, say like for Rex, Theri, Megatherium, all flyers... There is a list somewhere of the dinos you cannot use on that map.

I honestly suggest taking your High level character and go naked without any dinos to each new map, except for the whip and the silk, since whip is a game changer. Farming solo with whip is great. On Official, every new map, we could not take anything except our naked character for a month or two. You really get to know the new mechanics and new dinos. Plus the challenge is nice with that high level character. But play as you like.

I started Singleplayer, rented servers and transferred map and character files to servers, then eventually setup my own servers with ASM on an old laptop, and transferred map and character files to keep everything. ASM and old machine is cheaper, but if you lack another unused machine capable of handling ARK, and if your internet setup doesn't allow easily setting up a server. Then you are better off renting. With your mods and settings, you probably want the control, instead of finding a server someone else is hosting.

You can always save your Island map (SavedArksLocal folder) and store it in another folder while your son plays a fresh map. Then if you need an item or BP, or favorite dino, you can swap them, upload item, swap them back, then continue on whatever map you are on. If you backup before transferring, you do not have to upload your character if you are just swapping the entire Folder.

If you rent servers, or setup your own cluster, you can always pick a map like Ragnarok as a main base of operations while you progress through the story. Rag is fun, but is not cannon and has nice base locations, so does Crystal Isles. However Rag has a Tek engram only found on that map, the Tek Light...
To answer some of your points..
1. Satelite internet with upto 15MB speeds most of time. Steam downloads on average 0.8MB...

2. Only 1 machine can run ark. Want a cluster set up for her and myself separately.

3. Internet slow so online isnt option for now till get starlink.

4. this machine i run ark on has only 6 cores and 32 gigs :-(

5. I ended up transfering 1 combat dino and a bronto to scorched just as pack mules and hunting. And my taming gear :-)

6. I dont mind setting a cluster with Rag as base map. For base i just need good spot for water dinos. "A wide, deep and long river connected to ocean is best" with room on land to build land part of base. on island im little east of red obi on southern coast lol"

So over all i dont need much for server. As i only be on one map at time.
@Liralen,
How to i get ASM working? I got it and have ports and all done, settings are adjusted.. But I dont get the directions on cluster creation? Though with his info on pc stats needed... I only want to run 3 maps for now. Wanted to do all official maps "main ones, not the center and those for most part."
Looks like the OP has a fair plan of action in mind for how they want to continue, but I'll just post a couple of warnings here for anyone else who may be in a similar situation in the future:

DO NOT transfer dinos within cryopods between servers unless you are on a cluster. If you do so, their stats and colour regions will all be reset to 1, and you will lose them as useful tames.

DO NOT exceed the max upload limit for items and dinos unless you are on a cluster. While technically possible to do, it runs a very real risk of corrupting your profile data, rendering you unable to access the obelisk because the game crashes every time you try. Keep your upload limits down to 20 dinos and 50 items at a time.

DO NOT upload an item/dino from a mod into the obelisk, and then access the obelisk from another server which does not have that mod installed. Even if you do not look at your uploads page, it will corrupt the data for that item/dino and cause it to break, leading to a 'ghost item' which takes up upload space but cannot be downloaded or accessed in any way. Make sure to download all mod items from the network before playing on other servers which do not use mods - this applies for playing solo games too.

I've learned all of those things the hard way in my own games, I'd hate for anybody else to lose things they've spent time and effort collecting due to not knowing the dangers :(
i have a idea... but not sure how to implement it lol

And seems i need to re-download ark to use it with ASM?? Are the server files different from base game files? Im on a limited data cap so dont want to use all our data for the month.

And still figuring out how to set a cluster with asm lol

Getting started.

1. Get the latest version by downloading the latest.exe.
arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/5193/downloads

2. Follow installer and set where asm should install to normally this is in your c:\programs\ASM which is the best however you can install to another drive as well ie d:\ASM

3. Go to your base hard drive path. example c:\ Right click and select create new folder and name it ArkServers. You can name this what ever you want just make sure you dont have spaces in the name.

4. Go to your desktop and double click on the ArkServerManager.exe shortcut to start it and when it pops up select to run as admin.

5. When running for the first time it will ask you to select a Data Directory location click okay. You will then select the ArkServers folder you just made then click yes to confirm. It will download SteamCMD so just let that finish.

6. Click the green + at the top left of the manager to add your first profile. Once it creates make sure to go ahead and give your profile a name. I recommend not using any spaces in the profile name. Hit save.

7. Hit install and wait for it to download the server. Depending on your internet speed this may take a while.

8. Once the download is complete change the follow information below.

Must change: Set the server name to what ever you want. This name can include spaces.

Must Change: Set the password if you want one if not delete whats there and leave it blank to allow anyone to join.

Must Change: Set the Admin password for your admins to use in game commands with. DO NOT leave this blank or use the same password as the server password. Note this is also the password used for rcon to work.

Must Change: Select your lan ip address from the ip drop down list.

Optional: If your not hosting multiple servers then its recommended to leave ports as is but you must change them when running more than one server.
Example for raw sockets Note only the server port has two ports.
S1: 7777-7778 27015 32330
S2: 7779-7780 27016 32331
S3: 7781-7782 27017 32332 ect.
Example for non raw Note server port now only has one port.
S1: 7777 27015 32330
S2: 7778 27016 32331
S3: 7779 27017 32332 ect.

Optional: Enable rcon. This will allow ASM to give you more control over your server and give shutdown messages and some other things. This is also used to send some commands to your server without being logged in-game.

Optional: You can set up auto manage settings. Like turning the server off at a set time of the day. Including the server in auto updates/backups ect. Note for the auto update/back these must be checked/set in the global settings as well.(Gear icon at top right of the server manager)

9. Hit save. After making sure your ports are forwarded on your router hit start. The server will boot up once its done loading you will see the server name as ark#numberhere shut the server down then start it again once its back up your good to go.

The Above is copy and pasted from ASM website

to setup Cluster, under Administration below the Auto Force Respawn slider you will see Cross-Ark Data Transfer Cluster-Id... make sure all the servers have the same ID and check the box next to it, Cluster Directory Override. Click save and start up each server.

Ok i get most of it now.
So I follow steps 6-8 for each map i wish to add.

As for server files, If i need download multiple gigs it will take hours to days to do. And if its like ark game size then that be months as im data limited. Cant I use same server files for my cluster and just need the individual map files im going to use?

I watched a window doing downloads for while. And looked in server fold and saw it putting in main game files. So looks like it will download ark multiple times? If not what is the download total size?

Basically i get 50 gigs a month to use. And 5 people use that. So I try limit my own data use per month to 10 gigs max.

PS. I have all the settings for server on ASM set. Its just downloading server files. And I learned need copy mod folder over as well. Also my SSD im using is only 1TB and with ark and other programs "Need them on ssd so cant move them". And have only 330 gigs left on that SSD.

Gonna take nap I be back later today. ASM is some thing i really need... But starting out its a painful learning experience at first hehe "Nothing against ASM, Its great. Just hard for me to learn lol"
It's been a couple of years since I installed ASM, but I'm pretty sure it did not re-download all 300+ GB of Ark, but rather just the map files you specified in ASM for your servers. For example, the Ragnarok server is 9.2 GB and Valguero is 16.2 GB. Again, these have not been up-dated for well over a year, so they're probably bigger now.

I suggest starting with the Island map and get that one working, then copy over your single player files (see for example https://arkservermanager.freeforums.net/thread/594/import-local ).

Why not just backup your saved file then delete it, so you don't need to transfer?
