Generator Gas usage
I've finally gotten to the point in my game where I was able to start building all the various things that take electricity so I put a generator on my roof, filled it with gas and fired it up.

But when I googled to try to find out if the rate of gate usage goes up when you use more electricity I'm finding contradicting information. Some places say no...it is a flat rate per hour and other places caution against leaving things running that don't need to be....

Anyone help a brother out and tell me how the game works RIGHT NOW? I'm pretty sure I know the answer and that it is flat gas usage, 1 per hour that is then adjusted based on if you adjusted the slider for fuel consumption.

I just want someone to tell me "yes, you got it right" or "no, you're a knucklehead"...or I guess "yes...you got it right but you're still a knucklehead"

Flat rate. Tried and tested. I have mine hooked up to 8 different things and it uses the same amount as it did when I just had one fridge

I'm more exactly sure what default is but it's definitely not as hungry as 1 gas per hour. It's more around 5-7 hours. It's also a flat rate, it doesn't matter what's connected, it will consume the same amount of gas. I do believe cables will only be supported so far from the generator though.

Thank you both!

I'm not too concerned about the cable length limits.

When I built my house quite a while ago I intentionally left a ton of room for all of the things I figured I'd need to add over time. The industrial forge was a bit of a problem (it's so big!) but I fit everything into the house...even the forge, it just sticks out the roof. haha (actually looks okay though, like it' has a smoke stack or something)

Glad to know fuel usage will not be an issue. I made like 1000 gas already... I guess I'm set for a while.

Generator uses 1 fuel per hour. 33 days and 8 hours with full 8 stacks of gas.

as others have already stated, it is a flat rate. So power your whole city. This is unlike Empyrion Galactic Survival where everything has a power usage. The more power you need, the more fuel is used. I've heard people say there is a length limit in ARK, but I've approached close to 100 lengths of straight cable and they have worked fine. I run multiple buildings from one generator.

this makes me quite happy... i also switched my game from being singleplayer/non-dedicated server to having a dedicated server running on my 2nd computer, so like..fuel will get used even when i'm not playing if I forget to shut it down there.

I'm glad my 1000 gas will last me a good long time.

Yea I left the game for a while, came back, still had gas lol

I believe there is meaningfull cable limit only on wind turbines. Normal cables can go quite far away.

Man I dont know, I got one gen 500 fuel is 20 days another gen at another base has 500 fuel and lasts seven days, both just powering one fridge so nothing is adding up.

Bear in mind that some build mods like Structures Plus/Super Structures extend the length of time a single unit of gas will burn for. Perhaps one generator is modded and one is vanilla?
