How do you display the "ME" pin on the map?
I've tried using the in-game options to display map markers, but whenever I open the map, there's no indication of where I currently am. Most of the time it doesn't matter, since some kind of landmark is probably visible. But for trying to track down Explorer Notes and deep sea crates, I'd like to know a little more accurately where I am. (I don't have access to the GPS, since I've never found one as random loot and I don't currently have a fabricator. My last one kind of stopped existing when a titanosaur fell on it and got annoyed.)

There's clearly a setting I've got toggled wrong. But it's also something odd enough that I'm not finding it in the in-game menu, whatever it is. I'd appreciate any help.

I assume this is single player?

I don't recall if there is an option for it in the in game menu, but I do know that you can change it directly in the config file. Go to Steam > steamapps > common > ARK > ShoterGame > Saved > Config > WindowsNoEditor and look for a file called gameusersettings.ini. Open that in a text editor like Windows Notepad, and under the section [ServerSettings] look for the line ShowMapPlayerLocation=

If that line says False after the = sign, change it to True, then save the file and close it. Then start up the game, and it should show your location.

Thank you, I just checked that file and it was set to false, so hopefully it will be visible now.

ShowMapPlayerLocation=True

Set this in my GameUserSettings file and the 'Me' pin doesn't show. Suggestions?

Are you playing solo or on a server? If you're on a server then it has to be enabled in the server options, the fix above only applies to solo play. If on an unofficial server you'd have to ask the server owner if they would be willing to turn it on. If on an official server, it's off by default.

There is a toggle for it if you’re playing single player, or you admin your own server. I think it’s under advanced. I remember I really had to comb for it!

13th setting down under general settings once you see the check boxes if you're hosting or single player. Might be too late to reply though as this game came out 5 years ago

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
