Alternatively, taming pen, again on the outskirts of the swamp. A small room made of stone, with ramps leading up over the wall on the outside and a doorway in the wall oposite the ramps. Get one chasing you, run up the ramp so it follows, then run through the doorway before it grabs you. It'll be stuck in the room and ready for you to tranq at your leisure.
But I would make the pen at least 3 or 4 walls high, because the AI uses the pounce, too. You don't want to get grabbed by a Kapro, especially not a high level one like the one you will want to tame.
I have a 4x4x4 taming pen with dino gate next to my base. I can throw pretty much anything in there and get it tamed, as long as I can grab it with a Quetz. If the dino doesn't fit there or through the gate, I can't grab it anyway and need to tame it where it is, anyway.
One approach no one else mentioned is a tame-trap boat. Build out a raft and then put some walls up with a gate at the front, and doors at the other leading to a flat area at least two squares deep. Sail it up to a spot with a kaprosuchus nearby, then aggro it (possibly with a ranged shot from on the front of the boat) and get it to run you into the box and out the other side. Close the doors and now it's trapped. You can either fire through windowframes or from a platform you built above the box's edges, depending on the design. But note that you need a good margin; the kaprosuchus can clip through the wall and bite you.
The advantage this has over the tame tower is that it doesn't just keep you safe while shooting at the kaprosuchus, it keeps you and the kaprosuchus safe after it's knocked out while you're taming it.
But you are right, I didn't consider the possibility of disabled PvE-pickup.
Does the Quetz scoop still work?
Holy crap you got some balls.
And just some advice: if it's leveled up sufficiently, you can even let your anger out on bigger dinos. The stamina drain forces them to walk, which means you can punce past them, hurt them while flying by, turn around, punce and hurt them again, rinse and repeat. I haven't tried yet, but I could imagine even alphas being susceptible to this tactic. Spinos and Rexes are not match, I know so much.
Kapro OP!
