Kaprosuchus help
I'm level 40 and i want to tame a Kaprosuchus. I would consider myself an intermediate player, not a noob, but not a pro. I've got all the materials to tame one, but idk how to tame it without getting murdered by sarcos, titanaboas, and other kapros. I'm pretty sure you cant pick one up with a pteranadon.
Should i snipe it with the longneck and wait for it to chase me?

Stone taming tower may work. Build a stone foundation with walls all around it, then a pillar 3 or 4 high sticking up out of the center, with a ceiling on top. Build it on the fringe of the swamp, and have a ladder to get up to the ceiling. Wait for one to come close, then start tranqing it, and keep firing while it tries in vain to attack the stone foundations below you.

Alternatively, taming pen, again on the outskirts of the swamp. A small room made of stone, with ramps leading up over the wall on the outside and a doorway in the wall oposite the ramps. Get one chasing you, run up the ramp so it follows, then run through the doorway before it grabs you. It'll be stuck in the room and ready for you to tranq at your leisure.

Argy + taming pen is definitely the best way.

But I would make the pen at least 3 or 4 walls high, because the AI uses the pounce, too. You don't want to get grabbed by a Kapro, especially not a high level one like the one you will want to tame.

I have a 4x4x4 taming pen with dino gate next to my base. I can throw pretty much anything in there and get it tamed, as long as I can grab it with a Quetz. If the dino doesn't fit there or through the gate, I can't grab it anyway and need to tame it where it is, anyway.

We have tamed 4 125-150 on pve so we had to do it live and in the swamp lol.. We did all this prep and work and all the cool fun stuff. But what happen was tribe mate got pulled off his carno so while it was holding him he shot its face and so did I. It did drag him a bit... It was pretty darn funny so we did the others the same way. Probably not a way to do it solo though we keep them in our sea pen to eat the annoying mega biters that started spawning in the pen a few months ago lol
The argentavis approach mentioned above won't help if you're on a PVE server or anywhere where the 'pick up and take to a tame box' approach isn't possible. Which I assume is your situation because on those servers, that's the approach for almost everything, and you wouldn't be asking.

One approach no one else mentioned is a tame-trap boat. Build out a raft and then put some walls up with a gate at the front, and doors at the other leading to a flat area at least two squares deep. Sail it up to a spot with a kaprosuchus nearby, then aggro it (possibly with a ranged shot from on the front of the boat) and get it to run you into the box and out the other side. Close the doors and now it's trapped. You can either fire through windowframes or from a platform you built above the box's edges, depending on the design. But note that you need a good margin; the kaprosuchus can clip through the wall and bite you.

The advantage this has over the tame tower is that it doesn't just keep you safe while shooting at the kaprosuchus, it keeps you and the kaprosuchus safe after it's knocked out while you're taming it.

True, with a taming raft you can even conveniently bring your tame to your base while it is still knocked out.

But you are right, I didn't consider the possibility of disabled PvE-pickup.

Does the Quetz scoop still work?

I have my taming pen 2 high and they never escape. Probably because I move forward after dropping them. Seen one escaping a youtuber from an all gates taming pen so I see what you mean. Maybe since my taming pen is all door walls has something to do with it too

I think we all can agree that Ark can be very wonky at times. I can very well imagine a Kapro jumping against a wall, and then - due to the speed and excellend physics calculations - sliding upwards until he actually jumps over it.

Thanks, i used a taming pen (made it out of thatch) and shot him with crossbow tranq. Im very happy with his pounce ability. It allows me to take my anger out on smaller dinos :)

Holy crap you got some balls.

And just some advice: if it's leveled up sufficiently, you can even let your anger out on bigger dinos. The stamina drain forces them to walk, which means you can punce past them, hurt them while flying by, turn around, punce and hurt them again, rinse and repeat. I haven't tried yet, but I could imagine even alphas being susceptible to this tactic. Spinos and Rexes are not match, I know so much.

Kapro OP!

It had such low torpor that i KOed it in about 3 hits. The pen was really just to keep other dinos from sneaking up on me
