Restore a save
I accidentally went into the ark save files and deleted all of my data so now I'm trying to get it back. What can I do?

Did you delete the ENTIRE contents of your save folder?.... or just the *worldsave*.Ark file?
Quicks Sep 16, 2019 @ 3:45pm
I think the worldsave

Check your recycling bin.

If you *only* deleted the worldsave ... then your folder has a number of auto-backups in it.... they are date/time stamped files with a .Ark extension.

Find the latest one and rename it to whatever map you are on... eg: TheIsland.Ark

Based on what you said in the other thread, I have a feeling you may not have adjusted the file extension from .bak to .ark, so the game is not recognising the save you tried to restore. Do you have file extensions visible in your file browser?

EDIT: Assuming you had to go afk so I'll leave this here for when you get back.

On your computer desktop, click the start menu, and in the search box there type 'Folder Options' (without the quotes). Click on the option that comes up, and it should open another smaller window. On that window, click the 'View' tab, and look for a tickbox in the list marked 'Hide extensions for known file types'. Make sure that this tickbox is NOT ticked, but left empty. If you have to change it, click Apply then Okay.

Now go to the save folder you were in before: SavedArksLocal. Copy the backup file you want to load and paste it there in that folder. Now look at it's name - if it says .bak at the end of it, click on that section of it's name until it lets you edit it and change that section to .ark instead. You will get an error saying the file may become unreadable, but just click ok and continue.

Then, make sure that the filename in front of the .ark reads 'TheIsland' (again without quotes). If it says anything else besides that, edit it so that it says just that. Once that's done, boot up your game and see if the save is recognised.

If that doesn't work, let us know what the results are and we will continue to try and assist. I'll sub to this thread so I can see any replies.
