If there are no players in a boss arena. the dinosaurs and items in there get deleted.

So if you fail to teleport in, or die in the arena as the sole player. bye bye dinos

the dino's you brought with you aswel as your stuff will be at the obelisk/beacon/entrance where you gathered your dino's. so on the island they should be infront of the tek cave, in abberation they are going to be at the teleporter to rockwel. aswel as your stuff inside a bag

This is not even remotely true. I just wiped on Alpha Broodmother, everything is gone. At least 5 tames where still inside, gone. All my stuff, gone.

Dino item bags can remain in the arena. On our server we wiped to a boss, but we were very close to beating it and we had backup tames and items, so we dived right back in on another run. When we got in there, the bags containing the saddles of all the creatures which had died to the boss previously were still on the ground to be looted.

We do have extended decomposition timers on our server though, so on more vanilla settings the bags may not last long enough to overcome the boss cooldown. And we didn't see any player caches in the arena, so player items may well be deleted.

I remember the first time me and my friends fought a boss, we were grossly under-prepared and brought along our favorite dinos. We took a break from the boss and hid in a corner of the room where the boss wouldn't aggro us, waiting for the timer to tick down to 0 and spit us back out.

We were heartbroken.

Yeah, that can be pretty rough.

That's probably why it's best to only take in dinos that you can sort of "mass produce". Once you have stable parents with identical stats, they will essentially just make copies of themselves with the same exact stats (not counting mutations).

Speaking of mutations, that's why people go crazy with the mutation stacking. It's so that the babies pop out with high amounts of stats, 2 seconds out of the egg/womb. Stats equal to other dinos that they've spent time level up with exp, but they don't need to spend any of that time.

Been researching this topic to try and find some answers. It was an extremely frustrating experience to say the least to find out what's true and not true about dinos in the boss areas, the Tek cave (final dungeon), disappearing dinos, disappearing gear, and other related issues. Hopefully I might save somebody some heartache and a ton of time by sharing some of the findings.

SPOILER ALERT - INFO RELATING TO TEK CAVE AND FINAL BOSS BELOW

1) Some say everything disappears from a boss room when there are no players in it, all your stuff will be gone if you lose.
-----
NOT QUITE. Player bodies and tames that were still alive do seem to disappear, but loot bags for dead tames do stay in the boss area. If you die somewhere in the Tek cave or even in the final area before actually reaching the final boss room, your body can be found and you can get your stuff back, but not if you die in the actual boss room itself. Painfully confirmed this personally.

2) Some say your tames and stuff that seemed to disappear can be found at the entrance to the boss fight or in front of the Tek cave.
-----
NOT QUITE. This can sometimes be true for obelisk boss fights, but not for the Tek cave teleporter that sends you to the final area (in space). When the countdown ended and I got teleported, all of the tames I had following me through the Tek cave were gone. I died at the boss and returned very quickly. There were no tames conveniently waiting at the entrance or a loot bag with my stuff in it, they weren't further in at the teleporter location either, and they weren't in the log as having died. Painfully confirmed with a creature finder that they no longer exist, they're just gone.

3) Some have said bring sleeping bags and set them down when you get inside the Tek cave so you can get your stuff back quickly if you die.
-----
NOT TRUE. You can't put down sleeping bags anywhere in the Tek cave, period. There's a special notification when you enter that says "This is not a safe place to sleep" which is probably talking about exactly this. I tried in many areas of the Tek cave to put down a sleeping bag, it won't let you.

In my case, I found out later what happened and why my tames were gone. As it turns out, there are several "unwritten rules" about boss fights and boss areas that are exactly that, unwritten. They come across as nasty glitches since the game doesn't tell you about them at all and it's difficult to find a reliable source that can confirm it's supposed to happen and not a glitch. Here's what I know so far:

- You can't use cryopods in boss fights, the Tek cave, or the final boss "area" (before the last room) to -bring OUT- a tame, but you CAN still use them to -contain- a tame. Just know that if you do, you're taking a huge risk because your tame is now an item on your person which is basically guaranteed to disappear if you lose and there's no way to bring them back out until the battle is decided one way or another. This is not written anywhere within the game.

- There is a list of "banned" tames that cannot be brought into boss fights. This list is not written or acknowledged within the game in any way shape or form whatsoever. You have no way of knowing what can and can't be used other than looking it up outside the game or trial and error. The list includes fliers of any kind, thylos, gigantos, and some others. Again, none of this is mentioned within the game, you have to look it up elsewhere. In fact the game is even misleading on the subject because Mei-Yin Li's journal entry #26 clearly references using the "Demon King" (which is heavily implied to be a Gigantosaurus from the rest of her journal entries) to defeat Megapithecus, which isn't possible without cheating since you can't bring one.

- If you attempt to bring a banned tame into a boss fight, the game will not notify you, prevent it, or give any indication whatsoever that there is an issue. The only notification you get when you activate an obelisk for a boss fight is the tame limit.

- When a boss fight teleporter timer hits 0, it will "filter out" all banned tames and they will not be with you on the other side, leaving you to fight alone or with whatever "legal" tames you brought.

- Banned tames left behind before an obelisk boss fight -usually- will be standing in the obelisk area waiting for you whether you win or lose because they simply didn't leave. This does NOT apply to the Tek cave (see below).

- Unlike obelisk boss fights that send you directly to the battle, the Tek cave is separated into two parts, the cave itself and the final area. When you open the cave you're allowed to bring any tames you want (and a lot of them) to help you reach the final area. However, there's nothing that tells you that there are two parts to it, that the final boss is not in the cave but behind a teleporter at the end of the cave, or that it will filter out banned tames just like the other teleporters, or that it allows a lower number of tames than what you could bring in at the entrance. This is an important detail because you can't just leave like you could at the obelisks since the door to the Tek cave closes behind you and you can't reopen it from the inside. If you didn't bring cryopods for any banned or extra tames you might've brought with you prior to entering the teleporter, they'll be left behind. More importantly, unlike the obelisk boss fights, *tames left behind at the Tek cave teleporter will disappear from existence* and will NOT be waiting for you at the entrance, or in the cave, or anywhere else. Which means you WILL lose those tames regardless of whether you win or lose against the final boss. Unfortunately I learned this the hard way.

- The last unwritten rule is more of a warning. You are -expected- to look up everything about boss fights (and several other aspects of the game) beforehand from outside sources. If you don't, it's almost guaranteed that you will be punished very severely for trying to have a game experience without looking everything up even on the lowest difficulty. For many gamers looking things up is a natural thing to do early and often. I might be unique in that I enjoy games more if I can experience them on my own without hand-holding, but I can't say I enjoy it when it goes from a rewarding experience to practically being trolled for attempting it.

All that being said, I have the highest respect for those who play this game on official servers and do everything "the long way". I salute you, because I do not have that kind of patience and time is too precious for the kind of stunts this game can pull. I can't even imagine the despair that would come with having a dino you've bred and raised for hundreds or hours simply gone in an instant because of some glitch or an accidental follow command that goes horribly wrong, or the agony of having spent countless hours gathering resources for armor, weapons, and ammo just to have all of it disappear with no control over how it happened and no recourse but to put in the time -again-. I don't like using cheats in games often if at all, but I've long since resorted to using cheats in ARK and feel no guilt whatsoever. Way too many times this game has found a way to erase many hours of hard work trying to play it legitimately, so now anytime the game screws me with disappearing dinos or gear, I screw it right back by spawning one in, giving levels until it's where it was, using creative mode, etc.
