Compy Crazy
Okay, so I've been reading through, and I'm seeing that a lot of people are saying that it's easier tame compys than to breed them, but how do you keep the prime meat fresh when you go looking for them? I've tried keeping it on one of my other carnivores, but that only extends the life a little bit.

So then I tried breeding the 3 that I did manage to tame. I got 2 eggs. I stashed one, and hatched the other. I managed to get a prime meat into it within the first few seconds, and was like, "Awesome, crisis averted!" I put more fresh meat in, and it ate one, but then died a few seconds later, with more meat in it's inventory. What the what?

Any advice?

With prime meat it's easier to down the creature first then go harvest some from a nearby bronto or predator. Of course with dinos who's torpor drops fast like compies that can be difficult as they may wake up while you're gone, so having a friend stand by with a lot of narcos ready to use is advisable.

It strikes me that this would be a fair bit easier with a Scorched Earth server to farm salt off of, along with a refridgerator in your hatching room.

Also, not sure if it works, but try feeding the compy hatchling cooked prime meat. If it does, you're set.

1. With two people it's pretty easy: One's on a rex and the other on a pterrie for example, pterrie finds and picks up compies, brings them to Rex, Rex gets Prime, knock out and tame compy together real quick.

2. Solo you can use a paracer with a platform saddle: put a generator + fridge on the platform saddle, then have it follow you on a Rex. Fill up the fridge (or 2 or 3) and if you transfer the prime meat quick enough you've got 3.5 hours to work with. Plenty of time to find compies, but it can still be a little tricky to knock them out, get the prime out of the fridge, and get it on the compy before it wakes up.

3. Someone in our tribe used a cage succesfully: Pick up a compy, for example with a pterrie, bring it to the cage and drop it. Then have it chase you, run past the cage, but swerve so it goes in the cage. Close the cage, go get prime, knock it out and tame.

yeah one or 2 "taming cage(s)" in your base is a bug plus for all small/medium dinos you can lift up. you can also multi tame much more easier this way, specially in solo play

easiest option would be to trade someone for a vulture from se (prime lasts up to 30 minutes in their inventory on the island)

Why bring prime with you when you can bring a kairuku and a club?

Just grab a giga and farm, when you see a wild compy tranq it and feed it prime from the gigas inventory. All you need is some tranq darts and narcotics.
The Giga will harvest so much prime, much more than the compies need. Especially when you do that on the 2x weekend ...
