Beasts of Burden
Hello again!
So my friend and I have a mining outpost in that mountain that looks like a volcano, it's quite nice and safe, problem is metal's pretty darn heavy and even our quetzs can only carry about 6 stacks at a time.

My question is this: Which are, in your opinion, the best beasts of burden, feel free to give a multitude of options based on carry weight, ease of capture, safety against carnivores, etc. Right now my best estimate would be to tame a billion pteranodons and argentavis to make a convoy, though even our two quetz derp out when we do that

not sure if it still works but I seen a trick where a platform is built on a quetz with a ramp going downt he far side. An anklo would stay on the edge of the ramp, just far enough way to not increase the quetz weight but still be picked up on the ramp.

You can't beat a properly levelled-up Quetz, I find, especially bearing in mind the platform/ramp combo. I use refining forges on the platform structure to convert ore to ingots as I mine, which halves the weight on the return trip. That might help if your Quetz has a limited carrying capacity.

The anky farming on the quetz platform was nerfed last patch. 30% of the Anky's weight is now transfered to the Quetz so its no longer a good way to do it.

Firstly you want to build an industrial forge on the rim of the volcano taking care not to interfere with any metal spawns.

Then farming as 2 people, 1 guy on quetz picks up the person on the anky and flys around each spawn until the quetz is full on weight, fly to the indy forge close by, unload Anky and repeat.

The quetz platform was always a PITA to move around so its only benefit was you could have unlimited weight, as that is no longer the case, picking up an Anky is much faster even though you need to unload more often.

Reason for indy forge is that the refined metal will weigh less than raw so you are maximizing the carried amount to base.

As for beast of burden, you have options, we prefer the speed of a Wyern with 1800 carry weight. A quetz can have much more weight but they are slow which is annoying.

I solo farm volcano a lot and I still prefer Wyvern, end of the day the bottleneck here is waiting for the indy forge to smelt, not that your bird cannot carry enough.

quetzal and argie for air beast of burdens
paracer and rhino for ground beasts of burden

i don't have the dlc, so don't know how the dlc dinos perform compared to the regular ones

both air and ground option have a platform saddle, paracer is quite fast and hits hard. decent hp.
i have a paracer with an industrial grill and fridges for prime cooking
i have a paracer with mortar and pestle and forges for mining
i USED to have an industrial forge on my paracer, but there was 1 patch that disabled industrial forges on platform saddles. not only that, but my forge was even removed without refund...r.i.p materials

we have 2 quetz at the moment and I stupidly put our first (and currently only) industrial furnace in our base on herbivore island, realised the error afterwards but that consumed basically all the resources we had. We have about 9 normal furnaces on the volcano though and we power them with sparkpowder from mined flint with our anky (Dwayne Johnson)

So I guess breeding the quetzals and making a convoy is going to be the fasted way to carry massive ammounts of metal back home.

If you added a fabricator to the volcano you could then craft a lot of the big items right there, would save you a lot of weight.

well at this point we're pretty much done, the only thing we haven't crafted yet is PVP stuff (PVE server) and NVGs which I'm the only one wanting so much, though for those I have the chemistry bench I just need black pearls. The main reason I want steel is to make our base into a giant metal fort of impregnability, despite it being on PVE and on herbivore island which's onyl predators were artificially introduced by us xD (currently we have a giga and a t-rex roaming it to eat those damned brontos!)

Yes the quetz weight nerf was stupid but lots of things WC does is pretty dumb .

I will tell you There is a way to get around quetz weight issue
all I will say is experiment

As people have already said, quetz is the easiest and quickest to transport weight long distance. But it's by no means the most fun. I much prefer doing convoys of land dinos rather than going by air...yes it is more dangerous, but it is more exciting too, more of an epic quest trying to span the distance and keep all your dinos alive.

With that in mind, I've recently been experimenting with a couple of wooly rhinos on my single player game, and I'm impressed. They're surprisingly quick (can keep up with my speed-leveled galimimus when it isn't running), knock down trees to clear a path for themselves, are tough enough to defend themselves especially when mate boosted, and yet they're small enough to be manuverable getting up mountains where a paracer/bronto would be stuck. And high levels ones come with over 1k carry weight as standard - pump a few levels of health and oxygen (swim speed), then the rest in weight, and you could get some serious weight on them.

Well my decision to settle on herbivore island should be obvious enough that I avoid all confrontation, I only ever went diving once my friends tamed me a level 150 pleisio (now level 220) and I never go to the main land without my quetz which I immediately get on if anything bigger than a raptor comes at me (raptors I dispatch with my assault rifle)

Step 1. tame a Q and level it to have 5.5K weight. Step 2. tame a giga with more then 300% base melee. step 3. grow that gigas baby with 300% base melee and 100% imprint and level it to the 550% melee it gets when full leveled. Step 4. afk in base till more content comes out. Happy Arking!!!

I do convoy style with anky beaver and 3 bears so not only do i get my metal run it i can also craft behemoth gates with all the stone i get while doing it

3 weight bears
