How to use otters for collecting fish and pearls?
Hey :)
Besides the isolation effect against cold i heard otters can also collect fish and pearls. How to do that?

The otter has to attack and kill fish. I use the whistle attack, as setting them on Aggressive can get out of hand pretty quickly. Alternatively, you could have them harvest the bodies of fish that you kill yourself.

They are super frail, so try to avoid having them fight anything that can fight back. They also lose oxygen underwater, so try not to let them chase a fish for too long or they'll start to drown.

when i kill the fish myself and let the otter harvest them, will i get pearls as well?

The pearls will be in the otter's inventory. You won't get any pearls yourself, as the resources come from the otter harvesting the body.

Yep! Bear in mind that it is a chance for pearls though, not guaranteed.

yes! i set it on follow, and then on "attack my target", then i swim and hit the fish once, then it will attack this fsh and bring the pearls to me, when i wait on the shore.
it even shows me when it gets a pearl, it brings some black ones too!
thank you :steamhappy:

If you set up a few in a taming group, you can whistle them all to attack a fish, might be easier then having to swim around punching fish in the face ;)

And you want the taming group to obviously not make all tamed dino's in the area attack the fish :)

what also works is just to take the otter and trow it on a fish, then it will attack that fish!

yeah i used to had my spino with me and then it will also attack, taking all fish away... taming group is a good idea, but i never used that option, i don't know how to do it...

Hold "e" to get the options wheel, go to modify order groups, add it to one, then use the num pad to select an ordering group.
Once you've selected a group, nothing outside of that group will listen to your "all" commands.

Hold E on a dino, and you'll see an option for the taming groups. Select that, and you'll be able to add just that particular tame to a group, or add all creatures of that type (eg. all raptors) to the group. Then press the number on your numpad keys to select a group, and whistles will only affect them. You can also adjust tame groups from a tab in your inventory.

Or you can select the group via the numpad (for example 1 for group 1), then look at the dino you want to add and press "z" .... i hate radial menu's there so slow :P
