Dino Leash - How does it work?

So I've been trying to figure out the dino leash, It really doesn't seem to do anything other than run off batteries or solar. No way to know for sure something is leashed or not or at least I've no idea of how this thing works. Anyone else?

If a dino is in it's radius it'll have a red "lock" sign above it. Meaning it won't leave the radius.

I wasn't aware it could run off batteries, but it will say if it's unpowered because it requires solar power.

So as long as the dino you're wanting to keep within it's range is within the red radius around the leash, then it's working.

It's an Extinction thing, not tried it myself yet tho.
