Best way to tame a carno?
Hello. I've just started the game and I first laid eyes on the carno and I knew I needed one of those.
So, Iam fairly new. Level 28.
Sometimes it gets an odd angle and climbs rocks.
So what is the best way to tame these guys.
And also, could a carno possibly kill a therizino? Seems like those things are the bane of my existence.
Thanks.

take the high grounds!!. get up on a cliff side out of reach, aim down at it. it will trya nd eat u till its torpor gets hi. then itll take off running. only a few more darts after that should put it down!
carnos are not my fav tame. i have bred better raptors tbh. but as an ealry tame to get meat and basic defence. its a strong start.

According to the wiki, the required level before you can make the saddle is Level 46. Consider this before taming it. Unless you can get someone else to make the saddle for you you won't be able to ride it.

Even without a saddle it can be useful.

There are several good ways you could tame it. The easiest is probably finding a rock or cliff he can't climb. A trap made out of doorframes would also work. A Theri will definitely kill him though. You won't be able to put a saddle on him until level 46, and I doubt he is going to be very leveled before that. After you have the saddle on him you could probably kill a Theri, if it is a lot lower level then your carno. Theri's can be killed with a trap and arrows though. Or a cliff and arrows.

Therizino might seem small for its size, but they're actually almost as strong as rexes. A good level carno can take out therizino, but taming a therizino would be even better (except taming a therizino is extremely time consuming and expensive lol).

Carnos are one of those dinos that badly needs an update as their saddles are simply very late in the game (and you can find better dinos by then), and they're just underwhelming compared to a very similar dino, Allosaurus.

It might actually be easier and more efficient to tame an army of raptors rather than one (or even a few) carno as they're easier to tame and are reliable pack fighters. Bears are also great choices instead of Carnos.

This is true. Seen a rex and theri of equivelant level fight each other, and the theri actually won, although it did come down to the wire and the theri was really bloody at the end.

dont get to confused

1st poster nailed it> when yo umake wall traps to tame Dinos ,it becomes obvious thats the way to go (until you get Griffon and just pick stuff off while hovering !)

Easiest is to make Stone Colums ..most Dinos cant damage them bu tthey can draw the dinos aggro ,and give youfree shots.

place 2 Gateways

make walls of columns to enclose it all

lead dino into one end ..yo ucan fit between the columsand the dino can't >wholla! shoot ..o r close gate ; whatev you think

Get elaborate ..add walls to make tame pen safer to use..hatch to use /trap flyers

Ah, I see. Thanks guys! After reading I've reconsidered getting a bear(Had no clue there was one) like someone suggested. Thanks again.

Keep in mind that bears have a high chance of getting killed by tranq crossbow. Darts are best if you have access to them.

Seems I may need a carno kibble(what a coincidence lel), should I tame a carno or get right into it without the kibble.
Thanks for the tip.

Actually, if you look on dododex, you'll notice that Dire Bears love honey nearly as much as kibbles. Honey are much cheaper and you're better off saving those kibbles for wolves or uh, Trikes (mostly wolves lol).

That isn't a problem, even if they can't get a saddle made for them. On my single player game I played a while back my very first tame, and I mean...very first tame, was a Yutyrannus. I didn't even tame a dodo yet or anything else. No...I tamed a big giant feathery roar machine. I couldn't ride her but I did take her out hunting with me. lol

Instead of Dilos, I had a Yuty killing things, since my very first time playing the game, my hunting dino were Dilos but that time it was a Yuty.

Just because you can't ride it, doesn't mean it isn't useful. :)

The best way to tame a carno is to NOT tame a carno. Tame a bear instead. Bears are amazing. Carnos are teh suck.

Points in favor of bears:

Good combat mount with solid hp and damage, manuverable compared to larger mounts like rexes.

Best farmer of honey in the game.

2nd in land speed over open ground only to gallimimus.

Solid berry gatherer.

Solid carry weight.

Provides hypothermal protection to rider when mounted.

Points in favor of carnos:

Not as strong as a rex but not as fast as a raptor.

Lacks any meaningful purpose beyond combat, where it occupies a sad middle ground between big and powerful and small and quick. It is your fat cousin that plays football lineman not because he is athletic, but because he takes up space.

I know that was supposed to be points in favor of carnos but I couldn't come up with anything.

Gotta be honest, I'd really dispute the 'manuverable' part myself. I always found bears to be really cumbersome, even moreso than a rex or spino. They're bulky, and they take a long time to turn even when moving slowly, let alone when they get up to speed.

Oh and on that topic of speed, it's true that they're quick, but it takes them a long time to accelerate up to max speed, and as mentioned above they aren't the best at steering when they reach it. I often find I lose more time running into things and stopping, then having to build up speed again, than if I just took a slightly slower mount. The procoptodon, for example, is only slightly slower than a direbear at full tilt, but it accelerates to max speed instantly and can turn on a dime.

The rest I would agree with though - for all that I personally really dislike using them, I will admit that bears do have a lot going for them too. And I also recognise that a lot of people like them, so @OP by all means try them out and see if you like them too.

Do also keep your options open though, as there are many different dinos out there that cater for multiple playstyles, just find the ones you like the best ;)

tame what you want ... anyone can use the most OP dinos and be "sucessful"

Carnos get a bad rap from communuty

fact is their head bash can be super effective ,mixed in a pack of your own dinos..it pushes back Gigantos even, and stops them from getting off every attack they make

they are not super OP...yo uhave to choose your fights>bu ttha goes w any Dino ; ark likes to send stuf fthat can kill you no matter what you ride

If the Dinos you tame have good stats , chances are the will be great dinos- even a T REX w bad stats is mediocre at best

..the Bear is one the best creatures in th e game.. since it requires mammal mating, its not a favorite t o breed... only thing that ever killed a Bear of mine was a Alpha ,or a pack of Brontos, they can whallop you too
