What are ice wyverns good for?
I've been thinking on which wyvern egg i am going to steel lightning, ice, fire, or poison. I know poison is good for pvp and lightning is good for pve (at least that's what i;ve heard) and i don't know much about fire. That is the reason WHY i am asking this question. But the real question is: What is the ice wyvern good for? Does it slow things down so you can tranq them? What do you use it for and what's good about it (what's its special use)?
P.S i am new to wyverns

I've got a 3k stam 2k weight wyvern on official pve servers who for a side gig, goes and murders alpha carnos for xp. 322.4 melee as of right now. So probably not a good idea to have something that does a fair amount of damage, be your taming mount. As for aberration, unless the server has some kind of mod, wyverns are not allowed on aberration, the map physically wont let you.

What an Ice wyvern can do (with a decent person flying)
-Basically immobilizes slower creatures in the air. Argy's or other slow fliers wont be moving very far for the 10 seconds it's got 50% movement speed. Makes it easier for other wyverns to land their breath attacks.

-Murder machine on the ground against AI. You ice breath, bite 8-9 times, ice breath again, each knockback from the bite keeps the target out of your hitbox while you do damage to it. If you run low on stamina, one last ice breath followed by a C wing flap will let you regen atleast 40-50% of your stam.

-Slow other wyverns during egg runs. You probably shouldn't be the guy carrying the egg to do this but if you can land an icy hit on a fire/poison/lightning wyvern, they will be slowed, allowing for the egg theif to get an easy escape. Other ice wyverns are immune to ice breath debuffs.

-Strafing Primer. You swoop in before the fire or lightning wyverns do and light up the place with your ice breath, making your enemies unable to un-cluster from eachother, the resulting fire strafe or lightning strafe will hit more targets.

Frost/ice titans are really the blacksheep of the wyverns id say , when i used them in pvp it didnt do much at least on other airborne creatures and personally wouldnt use them again other than purely for transport .

btw if you havent seen already your wyvern can kill you (if you get within the attack cone) and even your own dinos with its special attack so make sure you keep that in mind when you use them .
On servers i see people fly around with wyverns and burn things like spino's and brontos. They also spit poison which is why i want one. Also, they are like gigantosauruses and when they get angry enough they kill you (gigas consume the rider)?

Wyverns actually kill you if you dismount while they're using their attack.

They don't rage like a giga, just as mentioned above the breath can do friendly fire.

Hazmat helmet from Abs also protects against poison breath. Don't need the full suit, just the headpiece.

Gotta be honest though, speaking personally, I'd suggest skipping wyverns altogether. I really dislike them. They're cumbersome to fly, have no saddle for defence, can kill allies if used carelessly, and their damage isn't all that special compared to other apex creatures. Also velonasaurs and reapers can ground them very quickly and prevent them taking off. I'd recommend a rock drake instead - just as fast moving if used correctly, pretty equivelant damage, much easier to use and more versitile, plus a saddle for defense.

That's just my opinion though, I recognise others may feel differently, so if you still fancy one that's fine. I can't really say what'd be best for PvP as I never play that, but if you're playing PvE then go lightning all the way. It's breath is easiest to aim, and I believe the damage it does scales with levels pumped in melee, which doesn't happen for any of the other three's breath attacks.

I think Manas are much better than any wyvern for PvP. Last I checked mana's ice breath can freeze enemy tames, and bean the rider.

Someone on a server said wyverns can kill almost anything on land. So why not use them for killing (besides poison wyvern)

Rock Drake is on abberation which i don't have yet. Also, it would bbe too much gigs for my computer and i would have to uninstall ragnarok.

Yes, i'm playing in PVE. Except i play on pve so i can store my dinos and be ready to bring them to a pvp server. I also do pve because i don't want my base to be destroyed or raided or my dinos killed.

Also can i use wyverns to transport things? Like resources, or metal i just mined or something useful.

Two things.

Buying DLC doesn't actually use up your memory, because you already installed them. Buying DLC is more like having permission to use the offered map.

Secondly, you can't transfer from PvE to PvP (unless it's an unofficial server, never heard of that being the case)

I thought it did.

So should i use wyverns to bring to abberation to steal rock drake eggs?
Hushed Dec 21, 2018 @ 8:06am
And should i use the ice wyvern to slow things like brontos down so i can shoot them with tranq things?
Sicksadpanda Dec 21, 2018 @ 8:20am
Wyverns are banned from aberration. Flying dinos are not allowed on aberration...assuming your server is using traditional official rules. Aberration doesn't have flying dinos as a form of challenge, and instead, uses climbing and jumping dinos.

Brontos are slow enough for you to shoot and run. Use a raptor, saber, or even better...Baryonyx, if you think you can't outrun them. The dinos I just listed are able to let you equip weapons/tools while riding (there are more dino options, but it's usually the medium sized dinos that allows you to equip).
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
