Taming a Sabertooth: help!
I've been wanting to tame a sabertooth but every one I've came across I've accidentally killed. At first I thought it was my dinos killing them so I went solo and I'm still killing them.

I usually use crossbow + tranq arrows. I aim at the head unless the wiki says not to. But the wiki says nothing about that, at least not from what I've read. So I tried using a boomerang instead. Still kill them. I think I'm gonna use a bat or slingshot next time and see if I can make them pass out that way. It's really annoying though.

I'm playing singleplayer and everything is on default (besides the building aspects).

The wiki[ark.gamepedia.com] has the taming by level thing and says you could even use tranq dart shots, but even those take a few shots. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Aim for the body. Wait between shots.

It move up to the darts. More torpor, less damage.

Thank you, I will try that.

Here's a helpful article from the ARK Gamepedia wiki, listing the damage output and torpor effects of most of the game's tools for subduing a critter...

https://ark.gamepedia.com/Tranq_Arrow

Note that a Tranq Arrow fired from a bow generates less Torpor than from a crossbow, for example. Better damage-to-torpor ratios are found with Tranq Darts fired from a Longneck Rifle, while best of all (outside of pay-to-win ARK Mobile powerups) is a Shocking Tranq Dart... but that little jewel requires biotoxin from Cnidaria, the deceptively-dangerous jellyfish of the seas.

Also, better-quality weapons will deal both more damage AND proportionately more Torpor.

Sabertooths can be sort of hard to KO without killing them. I'd recommend tranq darts myself. If you insist on using arrows, use a magnifying glass once it starts trying to run or is getting really bloody so you can see the health/torpor levels.

I had no idea that was a thing, so thank you!! I will definitely make one and try it out!

If it starts to get low, place down a bed and chest close by, and dump all your stuff in the chest. Then kill a few small creatures close by and drag the bodies over to the saber, let it eat them (bed is there for if it gets you too, if it doesn't eat them let it hit you while standing over the bodies and it'll get the bodies too with AoE). This will restore the cat's HP without doing much to the torpor.
