Island map crystal

I never played the Island map, started with Ragnarok.

I am trying to find crystal to make a spyglass, early game.

According to the wiki resource map (link below) there should be some crystal in the very south center of the map. (Near a peninsula called stone hence I think). Is there still crystal there?

I am not doing a strict no flyer game, but am trying not to rely on them. Don't have any yet, too low level anyways.

Can anyone suggest some crystal locations?

I think those deposits are in the lower south cave, not on the surface. You could go caving it you wanted, lower south doesn't have any creatures for a long way from the entrance and I think you'd find some crystal nodes before you hit them.

Alternatively there's a little bit thats pretty easy to reach on the mountain at 76,47...some metal up there too. Just bring bolas, raptors like that mountain.

Thanks Hermit that makes sense about the cave.

I need to tame a mobility land mount. Or just go on foot. For more inland adventures.

I guess I could try a suicide run on the cave, just to see.

I should clarify btw, when I say 'mountain' for that southern peak, it's not a mountain like you find in the north. Doesn't nearly go up as high, not as cold, and as I recall doesn't have any sabers or argies. Personally I'd recommend that over the cave, but it's your call.

South cave, plenty enough crystal for you in the entrance, the cave is hella hot so dont need to go all the way in to get all the crystal you need early game.
Also the mountain on the east coast is worth checking out. At the summit is heaps of crystal.
Be warned, ARgentavis and Sabercats spawn on the southwest side, T-Rex 3/4 of the way from the top, Argentavis on the south with some Allosaurs on the east and north. On the north side theres scattered obsidian.
Yes Raptors do love the lower parts of the mountains. Take a trike with you, they can handle the raptors and carry materials for you. If its a well experiecned trike it should handle a rex or two, I wouldnt go up against an Allo pack or Argentavis with one though.

@Hermit I survived a trike run to that mountain to get crystal. I avoided all the theriz and most the raptors. It was fun.

I understand why Ragnarok is so popular, it's resource distribution is easier.

That's actually Ragnarok's blessing and curse imo. It is true that resources are easier to come by, but at the same time that factor adds a degree of difficulty to the Island which Rag lacks. Overall in that point I'm not sure which I prefer, more abundant resources or more challenge getting them.

On the plus side, Rag has a lot of other factors which I do prefer over the Island, so it's defenitely my preferred map of the two overall. Not to say the Island is bad, but I do like Rag more.

I have so many hour on Ragnarok. I started with this map. But I wanted to go back and solo play my way through the core game.

Lol Travel agent fot Ark. Would get alot of customers. Just pay attention to the lay of the land, mark your map, take notes in game. It adds to the immersion for me.
