Help - Weird snap points?
Right, so. I'm an absolute noob and have no idea if this is a bug, or if I'm just making a dumb mistake, hence why I'm posting here and not in the Bug Reports forum.

I've got a bunch of wood foundations. I want to attach a sloped roof to the front to use as a ramp. But the roof will literally snap to any point except where I need it! I've tried using O to cycle though snap points and it's just not going where I want it.

Why can I do this:

And this:

But not attach it to the front of the foundation?

Or is that just not possible to do?

/mild frustration

have you tried pressing "Q" to rotate the piece ?
Also, why aren't you using wooden ramps ?

Welcome to ARK its building mechanics ^_^
You need to move around, maybe stand on top of the foundation, to get the right snap point.
Building is a bit wierd everyonce in a while, there might be a button to cycle between snap points, but im not sure if that is a S+ modded thing or a regular vanilla thing. I stopped building without S+ installed, because the vanilla game in my opinion is lacking heavily in the building department.

Just tried Q, it's just cycling through various points inside of the foundation. No big reason I'm not using ramps, I just preferred the slope on the roofs. I did try ramps as well, having snapping issues with those as well - they'll go in the right place but they stick up through the foundation a bit around the snap point. I'll probably just go with them if I can't get roofs to work, but it's still annoying.

@Lordbufu

Hmm... can I add mods halfway through a game or will that screw it up? I'm playing single player.

You can add s+. They are separate structures.

Or a mod called builders helper..something like that is good to (very small)

Okay, I think I'll give that a try. I'm enjoying the game but it's vanilla building mechanics are a mess!

Indeed, that is why most of use S+ these days, i heard there gonna add some function of it to the base game, but its been a long time since i heard anything from that.

you can also try using this mod, it helps a lot with snap points

This one actually enables flush snapping and angled railings on ramps

That's the one I meant, couldn't remember the name.

Grebog has some tiny modular mods vs using S+.

yeah, I prefer these to the S+ package with a bunch of stuff I don't want that add to game lag

Reason why is because its a sloped roof, these types of roofs can only be snapped on the edges of another structure and be used as roofs only (which is a very annoying mechanic), ramps are what you would need to snap outward with the vanilla structures.

Gonna have to give that one a try on my SE run, i do like S+ but i do agree with JDaremo that it add stuff i might potentiall not want.

yeah, especially the "Draw from Storage" option. Each time it scans it can lag you, especially if you have multiple workbenches scanning on top of an Egg Collection Mod.

Slope roofs do Not attatch well. they usually require an extra wall lvl above the wall you want to place it on.

Slope roofs have cost me more wasted mats than most building ops..even w s+ they r finecky as hell
