Windows Store version can play with Xbox players, Steam version cannot.
Steam version is the Steam version. Mods, easy accessible unofficial servers and no crossplay with PS4 or XBox / Microsoft Store Arks.
If they hadn't done that, there would be no cross play AT ALL. That's not the dev's fault. It's because Steam, Sony, and Microsoft are for profit companies (shame on them), and each have their own platform. Also, Ark is for profit (shame on them), so naturally they want to get the game out on each platform.
In a nutshell, if Ark didn't "double dip" as you say, there would be no versions for PS4, and Xbox, and you'd be right here crying about how it's Ark's fault.
Stop sniffing glue, and wake up. It's not Ark's fault. It's not anyone's fault. Without different platforms, and competition, the "one and only platform" would cost thousands of dollars, instead of hundreds. Since it's doubtful you even read this far, and even more doubtful that you understand any of this, I won't go into the downfalls of monopolies, and why competition is good for the consumer.
