Problem with ARK accounts
My husband and I both like ARK:Survival Evolved. we have one account that we have been sharing but it has become very difficult to share only one account. To make things easier, my husband had me set up my own steam account and than we repurchased the game on my account so we could play on separate accounts. The problem is that when I tried to play the newly bought game, it pulled up our old character. I'm scared to delete the character for fear of losing my husbands work but we are not sure what to do. We just want to play separate character accounts and if we didn't need to buy the game to do that, than we would like a refund on our game.

To play at the same time you will need to have a separate steam account with it's own licence to the game. Otherwise you could use family share between your accounts.

If you are loading up a single player game, then the save will be shared on the same computer. You can bypass this by running a server for yourself. Look into Ark Server Manager.

The above will also allow you to play on the same map with separate characters.

i would save the character data then delete the one on the game. and see if you have got rid of your husband data. if you did then just reput the character data back in the game. i hope this helps you

Be very careful doing this!!! Always backup before deleting anything!

Ark server manager is really the way to go. Then each account can connect with their own character.

How do I set up a seperate server manager account. Right now, whatever we do in one account, happens in the other account. we have tried switching steam accounts. We've also tried going at it from the host non-dedicated session.

You just download ASM, no account required. Setup and download server files through the interface. Once the server is running. The Ark client connects through LAN.

The problem I think is that you have only one game installation file and you are trying to use that for both accounts, so when you open the game it is using the same save game file for both steam accounts. Download the game for the 2nd account in a different area and I think that may fix your issue. For example if the first account has the game on C:\ try installing the 2nd account on E:\ or whatever your other hard drive is labeled.

By the sound of it, this reply here is what's happening. Despite being a different Steam account, the game will still reference the same files and folders to run, so it's just reading the game saves which are there.

You could try installing on a different drive, as mentioned, or you could copy the savegame out of the file and back it up somewhere, then delete it and start a new one on the new account. You would have to swap the files in and out every time you wanted to switch users, which may be a bit of a faff, but it might be easier than installing the entire game again somewhere else.

This is your single best option because characters are saved server side and are linked to your steam id... not your pc ip.

No. You still will not be able to both play at the same time. You need two seperate purchases of ARK surviavl evolved, PLUS DLC (if you want to play) Steam share will not work on servers if you both are playing on the same account purchase.

@Vesuvius, Did you even read their topic? :steamfacepalm:

I'm confused with this post on exactly what you mean. Maybe you were replying to something I didn't see?

They will be able to both play at the same time because they do have two purchased copies of the game. Each person now has their own account and their own copy of the game. They stopped sharing.

Hopefully they have figured out their problem by now.

I think this is it Marg...he's finally cracked.

You keep him talking, I'll contact the authorities.

EDIT: Okay, the above was meant as a gag, but after typing it I realised that they ARE actually two different accounts after all. So someone is indeed impersonating him. I thought he was just making a joke after misreading the OP and humorously referring to himself in the third person.

Weird, wonder what's going on.

Can you help me, I've been playing ark for a long time and my sister has bought it on another PC so we can play together except that when she wants to join my non dedicated server, she returns every time on the homepage. She can not reach my server think it's an IP address problem?

You really need to make a new thread and not post on the end of this one. You will get help then.

She needs to download the map you are playing on before she can join in most likely.
