Is doing a 1x Rate Vanilla Single Player playthrough worth it?
I have over 400 hours in ARK, all of it spend in multiplayer with high rates and mods.
All that was over a year ago, and i havent played ARK since.

So i have been thinking about playing the game through as it was meant to be played and without any boosted rates. I know this will be a grindy journey with many failures, but is the satisfaction of completing it worth it?

If anyone has tried this, please comment what you think, was it worth it?

1x is for multiplayer in a tribe. If u wanna play 1x join an official server but good luck to find room for a base in PvE.

It's up to you. That's like saying what clothes should I wear today?

You can start X3 harvest, X3 XP, X7 tame, X10 breeding. And adjust later as u see fit. At any time u can change the parameters.

Mods: Structure+ and Station Upgrade. I guess Teleport mod is convenient but I haven't tested it.

Beware there are more bugs in single player mode than online server. Devs don't care much about solo play.

I assume you will not use the single player buff which makes the game too easy.

I will be surprised if you find anyone that has cleared all alpha bosses and alpha ascended by themselves on 1x rates.

Playing solo you rely a lot more on your dinos which means you are mutating a lot more. That would be an insane time sink on base rates.

Running 1x tame, gather, xp is no big deal. The killer is going to be mating / maturation at 1x.

For single player mode you will probably want to increase crop growth and breeding settings unless you want to leave the game running 24-7.

But 1x experience, harvest, and taming could be done. I would still suggest 2-3x on harvest and tame since you will be solo.

he said he played on boosted servers already...x7 taming and x10 breeding? with those rates you don't even care about your dinos cuz are too ez to replace.

as someone said,a x2-x3 is good rate for an REAL SP experience

SP is much more difficult than MP. X3 is okay for harvesting and XP. Not for taming cuz its super boring to wait 1+ hour in front of a sleeping dino.
And u need accelerated breeding cuz in SP time stops when u exit the game. Also defeating the bosses alone requires 20 high level dinos which u will never get with X3 breeding.

On official servers, during events, ratings are X2. But first time never stops. And second it is supposed to be played co-op, in tribes, where lots of elements are mutualized. Good luck ascending solo with X2 ratings, lol !

No- fly is actualy a good option.

Ive just recently returned to Aberration to farm... and the lack of flyers is a refreshing challenge.

I just shudder thinking of trekking through the forest to get 100 metal ingots 18 times a day to make shotgun shells for a cave. Ugghhhh....
The thing about aberration though is that element is *easier* to get.... so with s+ ... tek teleporters become your besty.

You don't have to commit to an entirely No Fly ruleset, even on non Aberration maps. It's a sandbox game so easy to just do no fly adventures with different mounts.

I have really enjoyed the Rare sightings mod to do adventures like this, I use the setting to no allow them to be picked up by flyers for added challenge.

@Silky Rough with S+ transmitter no need to be encumbered. Fill up transmitter as you farm.

Which kinda' negates the whole point of "doing it tough".

I use S+ and transmitters/teleporters now - and THAT is the problem. :lunar2019coolpig:
I love to build big, so I really don't sweat the resource farming grind. I prefer different types of adventures.

I play almost exclusively solo, with a stack mod which negates some of the grind for materials since you aren't backed up by a tribe to help out. I'd recommend one of Hulk's mods, they're very reliable, and he has a lot of different ones so you can choose to make your game balanced or OP as you see fit.

Multipliers, I play with 5x taming and 7x harvest, although I admit I do prefer a more forgiving playstyle than most, so perhaps you'd want to reduce those a bit. I've also put the crop growth to 2.0, and use these settings for breeding which make it easier to breed for mutations without being insanely OP:

MatingIntervalMultiplier=0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001
EggHatchSpeedMultiplier=120.0
BabyMatureSpeedMultiplier=37.0
BabyCuddleIntervalMultiplier=0.03

One thing I have done though is reduce the XP multi considerably, as I found that vanilla XP rates had me levelling way too fast. I'd end up at metal tier with mid-lategame dinos before I'd fully had the chance to experience the earlygame, and face it's challenges/discover it's strategies. So I dropped my XP rate to 0.1 or even as low as 0.004 at the very start.

Personally, I find solo play very entertaining. As I said I like to play in a more forgiving manner, focusing on exploration, resource management and base building rather than the big boss battles, however I am breeding for the bosses in my main solo game now, with the intention of doing all maps in succession. It's hard, but it's also exciting as it's just me against the Arks, without backup from a tribe, and I get to forge my own path and write my own story. I find solo much more immersive than multiplayer, so it's much more of an adventure.

Just my opinion.

My advice is to just do it. Start a new SP game, accept all defaults, no mods and play that way to at least the point where you have tamed your first trike and built your first wood hut and bed. The first "cheat" you should consider is making sure that you saved your latest Shootergame/Saved folder just before you do something stupid :-).

Add mods and adjust rates as you grow weary. Personally I wouldn't play without the S+ mod, and in particular without the demo gun. Misplacement costs you 50% of the resources it cost you to build a foundation. And that is ludicrous in my opinion.

This is how many of us had to play this game back in 2015. The operative word is "enjoy" what you are doing at all times. It is after all a game.
