What's the deal with tek dinos?
Aside from looking like robots, they seem pretty much identical to regular dinos. They have the same sounds, abilities, diets etc. I know they drop some electrical stuff, but apart from looking nice, are there any differences? If they really don't, why were they added to the game?

They can be 20% higher in level.

When a tek dino spawns their base level gets a +20% boost. So if if it was 15 it would be 18 or more importantly if it was 150 it would spawn as 180. But their level is based on RNG so it could be a low level and it won't matter as much.

Most games have rare spawns or loot to keep player coming back.

Ah, that makes sense. Also explains how a level 100 tek raptor i tamed just got up to lvl 150.

No this is just normal taming mechanics. When you tame something it gets a level boost after it. Look at the "bonus level" info when you are taming something. It depends on the amount of food used and if your tame got damaged while unconcious.

In business terms, they're probably just a way for us PC players to get the console exclusive tek skins so we won't complain that we were left out. But as others have said, in game they can have slightly higher levels and stats, and give some nice resources when harvested.

What are you on about, the bionic skins were always in the pc version....

The bionic skins on pc are for a few selective dinos that dont have tek versions and even then those skins are achievement rewards.

The other bionic skins are all for console only and just for those who pre-ordered or got the collector's edition.

Every dino that has a bionic skin on console has a tek variant, aside from some that are achievement rewards. They probably DID add tek dinos as bionic for pc.

Even then, bionic skins are strictly the silver and blue colour pallet, while tek creatures aren't so either way the bionics are still console exclusives, they just added robot dinosaurs for pc players that liked the designs.

You literally need to Google [dinosaur] bionic costume and you'll see from the wiki page that it's console exclusive. Same with everything else.

No, a quick look at the official wiki shows that they do get higher levels and such. Probably cause they're much rarer, which if you did read the wiki you'd see that stated also.

Can people check up on their facts a bit? Not to be rude but these things can literally be debunked by a Google search.

If you can use Google why are you asking here?
the same info if you search...

You see, at the time of me making the thread I was ingame and had killed a couple tek parasaurs and tamed a tek raptor. Due to me being on a server with active ravager nearby my base that could kill me, I didn't have time to investigate. Now that I have and thanks to people on this thread, I now know.

The taming bonus is not related to tek dino by no means... if you tame a level 100 anything and it get 100% taming bonus you then have a level 150 something. In your words, if you read on taming you would know. But it's even easier than that, it's right there in game while you tame something. A tek dino will not get a higher taming bonus, just a higher spawn level.

And about those bionic skins, ever heard of mods and admin commands??

On Tek Creatures:

"Tek Creatures spawn at a 20% higher level, i.e. on difficulty 5 (max level 150) they will spawn up to level 180. They have a chance of 5% to spawn instead of their normal counterpart."

On Taming:

"• All Tek Creatures - 20% higher level (6 to 180)"

That's from the official wiki. Please link your research.

Also, please, and I mean this with as little hostility possible, shut up with admin commands. They aren't to be used in normal and fair gameplay and using them can give unfair advantages to gameplay. By your magical logic, spawning a bulbdog on scorched earth cause you like them would be fair game too, despite them not appearing there at any time. If you want to use commands yourself, go ahead, just don't use them as a major point in an argument like this.

You are not talking about the same thing as Seftak... you are refering to the lvl spawn rng.... seftak is refering to the lvls gained from a perfect tame... ie: normal taming mechanic

On admin commands .... how do they give unfair advantage in singleplayer?

Ok i get it that you are not on a modded fun server where dinos from other maps spawns and you can find skins and such in loot drop beacons and possibly craft them. You know a cosmetic do not give you any "unfair advatage" right...?

Thanks Ves. Even if i made it very clear apparently it was still confusing.

Seftak's trying to say tek dinos just use regular taming mechanics and levels. I'm saying official sources say they gain extra levels in and out of taming, not level spawn rng. It isn't solely about regular taming.

Also, please tell me how using commands to give yourself 1000 metal bars or even giving yourself a while tek armour set isn't unfair. Cause they are. Even in singleplayer you can spawn in 10 of each artifact. Nothing changes.
