The amount of metal is ridiculous, when I based there I could not look in any direction without seeing metal unless I was standing with my face right at a wall.
There is the occasional rockdrake, so be sure you can deal with one of those, and watch out for alpha crabs too.
Also, no one minds you creating lots of threads. So long as you don't post 10 threads in 10 minutes, it's not a problem.
I and many probably others prefer centrally located base. Proximity to resources and various biomes.
That exploration ended with a strangely similar scene of me seeing the surface for the first time to the scene in the trailer, then followed by me walking 2 steps and... rumbling, a head and then a whole damn "surface reaper king" right up in my face. I ran, but I wasn't quick enough at the time and died. Pretty neato
Also, is the eastern or southern blue zone best for a base? I've seen many ravagers in the southern area, but not many in the eastern. Still though, not an expert.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the spawns are mostly the same throughout the blue areas, so seeing more ravagers south than you did to the east was likely a coincidence. The metal spawns are insane all around too I'm pretty sure.
Really just whichever region in there that looks best to you.
What I did was I would just have a room with all my spare glowpets set to auto and just run in there, turn mine off, and wait for it to recharge while sitting in the others' constant charge.
I also have 3 Aggressive Megalosaurus on guard (following a passive tanky Paracer with medium distance) so I'm all good if Drakes wander in.
I'm located in the Overlook section, as you go down a narrow path that reaches a spot with obsidian on one side, metal on the other and a small trench-like location with a Plant Z for seeds. I built far enough that both metal and obsidian spots respawn just fine. Quick dive access to Rock Drake territory and plenty of resources nearby.
The path I took was right up at the north edge. I first entered through the waterfall at the end of the river then ran along the pathways in midair then stayed close to the wall. I think the tree area is around the south-west area, so those are the places I'm talking about. Either way though, thanks for the tips. I'm going to try to get an ankylo then gather enough stone for a good stone base around the base of the tree or some safe place around the area. I'll keep a look out for good resources.
The real secret is not to build on ground level. Use cliff platforms to build up off the ground. That way nameless don't spawn regardless of you having light pets shining.(or if they do, they are on the floor of the cavern and not actually threatening your base.) You can use a cavern wall, or do like i did and attach several cliff platforms around one of the huge pink crystals. I still used light pets anyway, though. Because sometimes one would manage to spawn on the crystal itself. but it wasnt an issue to deal with a single nameless every once in a long while. With the crazy amounts of local metal, it's easy to make a big metal ramp leading down to the ground floor. and protect the top or bottom of the ramp with a big gate. And if you need more space, you can either make metal support pillars and just build as needed in any direction, or do like i did and attach cliff platforms to a nearby stone or crystal column and make a bridge connecting them. Even if a Karkinos sees you, you are high enough up that they cant jump to you. That base of mine was a lot of fun.
And building in the forward end of blue meant i was nearby, but not inside, the radiation zone. So I was never very far away from being able to go farm up red crystals, harvest the organic polymer producing plants, or go down to collect rock drake eggs. etc.
I'll try to remember to login when i get home from work and get GPS coords and a screenshot or two.
Honestly though, there are so many rocky pillars everywhere in blue, that it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that looks like it might be fun to build on.(that isn't taken already)
