Is moving my base to the blue zone a good idea? (Aberration)
It seems like a good place to set up a base. Lots of metal, resources everywhere and such. I feel like moving a base there would be a good idea, but I'm not an expert. I have some high level bulbdogs that can keep a constant light going for over an hour, plus I have multiple of them and all have a massive range. I know there are freezing spores there, but they aren't everywhere so they leave many good spots for bases. Plus, amazing visuals and music.

I know I've made quite a few threads now but I can't really look for stuff like this on the wiki, while with dino stats I can.

Absolutely!
The amount of metal is ridiculous, when I based there I could not look in any direction without seeing metal unless I was standing with my face right at a wall.
There is the occasional rockdrake, so be sure you can deal with one of those, and watch out for alpha crabs too.

Also, no one minds you creating lots of threads. So long as you don't post 10 threads in 10 minutes, it's not a problem.

I think blue zone or the edge of blue zone is great very centrally located.

I and many probably others prefer centrally located base. Proximity to resources and various biomes.

I'll be sure to move there soon then! I've been to the eastern blue zone once and all I've seen is a couple snakes stuck on rocks, a nameless where I forgot to turn on my light pet and a few ankylos. Never seen a rock drake aside from some people on the server I'm on flying around to where I have my base right now, right beside the lake.

That exploration ended with a strangely similar scene of me seeing the surface for the first time to the scene in the trailer, then followed by me walking 2 steps and... rumbling, a head and then a whole damn "surface reaper king" right up in my face. I ran, but I wasn't quick enough at the time and died. Pretty neato

Also, is the eastern or southern blue zone best for a base? I've seen many ravagers in the southern area, but not many in the eastern. Still though, not an expert.

Yeah so long as you can keep charge up then it's worth it. Also, if you're worried about charge, make your base around a charge platform. They give the charge buff to anything within close proximity, so you could periodically stand next to it, turn your light pet off for 30 seconds or so to let it recharge, then turn your pet on again and go about your business, all without dropping charge at all.

I based in the west biolum area, but the east has that crazy massive tree thing so sometimes I feel like I should've based there instead, and I probably will next time I'm in Aberration.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the spawns are mostly the same throughout the blue areas, so seeing more ravagers south than you did to the east was likely a coincidence. The metal spawns are insane all around too I'm pretty sure.
Really just whichever region in there that looks best to you.

What I did was I would just have a room with all my spare glowpets set to auto and just run in there, turn mine off, and wait for it to recharge while sitting in the others' constant charge.

Aye. The blue zone is a very good location to build, so long as you can ensure you have good Charge coverage. For mine, I simply tamed several buulbdogs and dispersed them throughout my base on Auto-Light. With S+, the troughs cover enough ground that they don't ever run out of food and when one is recharging, usually the rest are still good to go for a while. I usually raise their charge to 2k tops, and then nothing but their coverage radius. It's cheaper than an elaborate Charge Light setup in my book.

I also have 3 Aggressive Megalosaurus on guard (following a passive tanky Paracer with medium distance) so I'm all good if Drakes wander in.

I'm located in the Overlook section, as you go down a narrow path that reaches a spot with obsidian on one side, metal on the other and a small trench-like location with a Plant Z for seeds. I built far enough that both metal and obsidian spots respawn just fine. Quick dive access to Rock Drake territory and plenty of resources nearby.

Ok, I haven't got the whole map mapped out so I may have gotten locations wrong. I now know the whole blue area is one area and not split into multiple so I'm gonna explain this again.

The path I took was right up at the north edge. I first entered through the waterfall at the end of the river then ran along the pathways in midair then stayed close to the wall. I think the tree area is around the south-west area, so those are the places I'm talking about. Either way though, thanks for the tips. I'm going to try to get an ankylo then gather enough stone for a good stone base around the base of the tree or some safe place around the area. I'll keep a look out for good resources.

If your concerned with light, just get that plant seed and grow it around your base to keep nameless away long term

I've read that the glowing plant only glows when you're near it though, so that wouldn't work unless you have a really small base.

My main Abberation base is deep in blue zone, near red. There's some huge pink crystals like stalagmites growing up out of the water. So I have access to water, cool ambient light (so putting electric lights around the base is less necessary) metal everywhere, and there is still plenty of rock and wood and gas veins around.

The real secret is not to build on ground level. Use cliff platforms to build up off the ground. That way nameless don't spawn regardless of you having light pets shining.(or if they do, they are on the floor of the cavern and not actually threatening your base.) You can use a cavern wall, or do like i did and attach several cliff platforms around one of the huge pink crystals. I still used light pets anyway, though. Because sometimes one would manage to spawn on the crystal itself. but it wasnt an issue to deal with a single nameless every once in a long while. With the crazy amounts of local metal, it's easy to make a big metal ramp leading down to the ground floor. and protect the top or bottom of the ramp with a big gate. And if you need more space, you can either make metal support pillars and just build as needed in any direction, or do like i did and attach cliff platforms to a nearby stone or crystal column and make a bridge connecting them. Even if a Karkinos sees you, you are high enough up that they cant jump to you. That base of mine was a lot of fun.

And building in the forward end of blue meant i was nearby, but not inside, the radiation zone. So I was never very far away from being able to go farm up red crystals, harvest the organic polymer producing plants, or go down to collect rock drake eggs. etc.

Wow that area sounds like a god-send. If you can, I'd love if you could get a picture of the aberration map and pinpoint where your base was in that area (which i think is called the crystalline marsh). No rush of course and you don't need to. I'm just hoping nobody in my server has gotten to that area yet!

ah, i play solo, so i never have to compete for good base spots :)
I'll try to remember to login when i get home from work and get GPS coords and a screenshot or two.

Honestly though, there are so many rocky pillars everywhere in blue, that it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that looks like it might be fun to build on.(that isn't taken already)

As I've said, I have explored practically none of blue. My main goal was staying off the ground and staying safe, and that backfired when, y'know, surface reaper king. I'll try to be wary while actively looking for base spots tomorrow, as in the UK its currently 10pm.

Blue shouldn't spawn any reapers at all. They are only in radiation zone and way up on the surface of the map. (just FYI) The wiki says if you let an alpha nameless live for too long it may summon one, but ive never gotten that to happen in blue.(and ive tried to get it to happen)

Yeah, the Crystalline swamps is what i was referring to. My base spot is on the easternmost side on a large lake.
