Why is it so surprising?
Steam version uses Steamworks for multiplayer type crap
If the Win10 version had that it would be a copyright violation and all that other good stuff unless Valve gave permission to use it.
Microsoft has their own rules when it comes to such things
So yes, it does make sense for it to be this way, regardless of how annoying it may be for some people.
It does not make sesne to split a PC game into 2 sep copys... dividing the PC playerbase. Can you imagine your work mate saying of ive got ark cool lets play tonight, get home oh sorry im steam your win 10 gg we cant play the game together.... get out of here that's f retarded.
It's no different than your mate saying that and they have it on console and you have it on steam?
It's happened for years, why so angry about it now?
It is the Xbox console game ported to Windows 10.
Sony used to be okay with cross platform...they were quite open about it and willing to consider it if devs wanted it. But recently they've completely closed shop. And Microsoft have always been reluctant to do it as far as I know, even in the past. They did give the go-ahead in a few rare cases, but for the most part they refuse.
Sony made FFXIV cross platform 100% with PC while microsoft refused to have the game on their console so that's bull.
Yea great close the gap by stealing PC community to force them to play on win10 version to play with their xb friends... great going. so what? we all make an xbox live account and buy all our future games on windows store hmm? if you think they're closing the gap by making an xbox live win 10 version of the game to force people to choose between steam friends or xbox friends is a good thing then you've been smoking crack and going on whatevers got talent in your country lol.
stream that so we cant all watch. Hell it might go viral and make you some $$$$
GO FOR EET!
Not at all surpridsing and if this article is to be believed.... It'll just get worse.

An inability for two people to play the same game on the same platform is a new one to me.
Also, that was back in the PS3 days. Sony as a company has changed since then
