Can I make my PC into server for 2 player co-op?
It'll only be me and one other person playing, they will only be playing when I'm online. Can I set my PC as server for that?

Yes but u could use a LAN connection. If they aren't on the same network then u could use a virtual Lan program. Might be easier.

They are in diffenert location in the same city. I'm not sure the best way of going about things. Do I need any 3rd party software?

Could use ARK server manager to host it

Simply chose game as host your own server, make it protected, give the other person your ip your port and password. done.

Brilliant. Thank you for your help! Hope you have a good new year! Anything else I need to know about server stuff? (I know plenty about the game as I played it lots in the past and even tamed a T-rex)
Oh, by the way. My PC is i7 4790k and 980ti and 16gb ram and will be running from an M.2 ssd drive thing. The other PC only has a i7 920@ 3.6Ghz with a R9 290x and 18Gb ram. I understand neither of us can play the game maxed out, but with only 2 players we should be anlew to play in medium or high? ( maybe epic?)

keep in mind that this will tax your system a bit more than normal....make sure you have ample memory.

I only have 16GB. Should I get another 16GB?

you should be ok with 16---BUT it depends on how long you play. I also run a server on my pc as i play with my peeps...and as the hours go on, the memory demand grows.

16 is ok. 32 is better! :P

There is a way in ARK to run it as a non-dedicated server. There is no need to have a dedicated server to play with just 2 people.
But i'll be Ok playing the game at the same time as it being the server at the same time? The M.2 ssd I have is really really quick, I could maybe section some of it off as spare RAM until I buy more RAM. (lol, xmas wiped my bank accout out) :mushbloom::dwarfbeer::sadelf::redtoadstool::magicmushroom:

That's only if you deal with the memory leak. Under normal conditions you would never max out 16gb with just the game and a server. A low pop server like what he wants is not demanding at all.

Your computer is already overkill for what you want. Just download Ark server manager, choose your settings and an install directory. After that you'll have to forward the ports you chose and you should be set.

Yeah, I host a server on my local machine for me and up to three of my friends at a time, and 16GB is fine for that so long as you don't suffer from the memory leak that is running rampant at the moment. I was suffering from the leak, but turning the sky quality down to 0 greatly helped in that regard so 16GB has been plenty sufficient for my client and server.
